The Trump administration is no longer offering due process protections to the most vulnerable immigrant children
-- as it tries to increase the number of deportations,
according to a lawsuit filed this week on behalf of six children,
five of whom reside in Allegheny County.“This case is about the most vulnerable in our immigration system:
abused, abandoned, neglected, and trafficked children,”
the opening lines of the lawsuit read.“One would assume it would be a priority of our immigration system to protect, at least, these children.”
The 159-page complaint, filed against the Department of Homeland Security and its Secretary Markwayne Mullin in federal civil court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania,
argues that new procedures and rules implemented by immigration judges in the past year have effectively undermined a 1990 law
that was supposed to provide special protections to these children.Jewish Family and Community Services of Pittsburgh (JFCS),
which filed the lawsuit Wednesday,
said that some of the children who have been ordered removed have already been identified as having been sexually trafficked or abused and abandoned by their parents.Others are being deported while the children are in the middle of making their case
– or even before they have had a real opportunity to be heard.“Despite the risks, whatever they may be, we need to stand up at this time.” said Dana Gold, chief operations officer for JFCS
“The United States has long recognized a compelling interest in protecting children from harm and trafficking,
an interest Congress has codified and reaffirmed for more than three decades,”
the complaint reads.“Immigration authorities, and immigration courts,
throughout the United States are now refusing to afford children the due process to seek that protection.”One of the children described in the lawsuit is a 17-year-old from Guatemala
who was issued a letter from the Department of Health and Human Services, stating
“We have determined that you were subjected to a severe form of trafficking in persons.”But she was still ordered removed by an immigration court in Philadelphia on July 16.
The removal of a girl who has been trafficked,
the lawsuit argues,
contradicts the stated goals of Secretary Mullin,
who is quoted as saying he would “move heaven and hell to go find these kids.”“It is a hypocritical position to espouse,”
the complaint says,
“while simultaneously looking for credit in locating missing or trafficked children.They are right here”
and the Trump administration is
“seeking to return them to harm, without any due process.”Another one of the children whose removal status is being challenged by the lawsuit is a 15-year-old from El Salvador who lives in Allegheny County.
The girl has already gone through the process of proving that it would not be in her interest to be reunited
“due to abuse, abandonment or neglect.”JFCS has provided legal help to nearly 3,000 unaccompanied minors in the last five years,
including representation in immigration court for 983,
in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.The Trump administration’s new guidelines and rules are making it nearly impossible for the small nonprofit to continue its work,
according to Dana Gold, the chief operations officer for JFCS.The lawsuit is the only one in the country of its kind that Gold is aware of.
“Nobody else across the country is doing this.
They’re waiting for us,” she said.“And so we have a grave responsibility for these children.”

I've thought long and hard about this.

I talk about my mom's ferocity and strength a lot, cuz she had enough for 50 men.
She was an Amazon, and she didn't have packages, she had a six pack and did modeling. Practiced #taekwondo and #boxing and ran 10 miles every morning, cuz she got #abused a lot liking wild men, and didn't like getting hurt much.
In the end it was all just a show though cuz she was scared, and knew I was too. To me she was as kind as could be, and she lost herself trying to protect me.

I am starting to realize that I have an almost savant level of ability for finding patterns.
I could keep track of every little detail about my tables as a waiter, even when I had 10 full tables down to how much soda was left in each person's glass, and how fast they seemed to be drinking it.
Know how long each table would be when I had 100+ as a Host.
I think it comes from being manipulated and #abused as a kid, and spotting #behavior patterns.

Trump staffers reported over altercation at Arlington cemetery during photo op
Officials at #Arlington #national #cemetery have filed a report over the behavior of members of Donald ♦️Trump’s campaign staff who reportedly #shoved and verbally #abused an employee during a “crass” photo opportunity ♦️for the Republican presidential candidate.
The officials confirmed that a confrontation took place at the Virginia cemetery on Monday after the former president participated in a wreath-laying ceremony for 13 US servicemen and -women killed in a 2021 suicide bomb attack in Kabul, Afghanistan.
In a statement, Arlington acknowledged one of its representatives became involved in the altercation with two Trump staffers, telling them that ♦️only cemetery representatives were allowed to take video and photographs in Section 60, ♦️an area where recent US casualties mostly from Iraq and Afghanistan are buried.
⚠️“Federal law prohibits political campaign or election-related activities within Army National Military Cemeteries, to include photographers, content creators or any other persons attending for purposes, or in direct support of a partisan political candidate’s campaign,” ⚠️the statement said, adding that “a report was filed” over the incident.
“Arlington National Cemetery reinforced and widely shared this law and its prohibitions with all participants,” the statement said.
🔥The staffers “verbally abused and pushed the official aside” 🔥as the person attempted to prevent them accompanying Trump into the section, according to NPR, which first published the allegation on Tuesday night.
Following the wreath-laying, photographs from his visit showed ♦️Trump grinning and flashing a thumbs-up ♦️sign as he stood at the graves of several of the fallen military members, imagery that drew swift rebuke.
“The hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery are the final resting place of our American heroes. 🔥Trump defiled Arlington National Cemetery by doing a crass campaign stunt over the grave of a dead hero. 🔥And his campaign staff acted like #bullies,” the Democratic California congressman Ted Lieu posted to X.
#Trump was reported in 2018 to have canceled a visit to an American military cemetery outside Paris because 👉he thought the dead soldiers were “suckers” and “losers”, 👈 and because he did not want the rain to mess up his hair.
