I recently stopped in at The Old Absinthe House in New Orleans. Many of my favorite authors spent time here, including Oscar Wilde, Mark Twain, Walt Whitman, and Aleister Crowley. The drink pictured here is Crowley's Concoction made of dry gin, elderflower liqueur, absinthe, with a touch of sour and lemon and lime soda. On that hot day, it was a magickal drink.

Finished off the #absinthe we've had in the liquor cabinet (well, shelf) for awhile by making an "Absinthe Sour" (yeah, I know... I didn't have the will to drink it the proper way).

Wow, the 69% ABV feels like a lot. More than my usual #mezcal .

Clearing out a cabinet, I found a old bottle of St George Absinthe from 2007. Once we removed the cork, we've discovered the aging has made it the mellowest most palatable absinthe I've ever tasted.

This is a clear win.

It would not have occurred to me, as an idiotic adolescent 40 years ago that I would be spending a Saturday night with a wonderful spouse and two friends listening to live music at an absinthe tasting party.

Made it here without incident, was appropriately lazy yesterday, although I did get a bit of a workout in petting and scratching love-demanding dogs, which was quite acceptable. Both the old and new girl are such face-kissers. ^^;

Stayed up a bit later than I wanted, but did get the 10 hours of sleep I hoped I'd get. And no ill effects after a couple of beers and some of my reserve absinthe (swear it's improved with age)...I'd say things are going fine so far~

- 3/4 ounce lemon juice
- 3/4 ounce #Cointreau
- 3/4 ounce Lillet blanc
- 1 dash #absinthe
Shake with ice. Strain into a #cocktail glass.

1/2 teaspoon #absinthe
1/2 teaspoon simple syrup
1 dash Peychaud's bitters
2 ounces rye #whiskey
Garnish: Lemon twist
Coat a chilled rocks glass with Absinthe, pour off any excess. In a second glass, add bitters, syrup, the whiskey, and some ice. Stir to chill. Strain into the first glass.
