Remembering Richard Guy on what would have been his 110th birthday.
Amazing man ... absolutely lovely, and features in one of the stories I tell about meeting amazing people.
Among other things, it was Richard who discovered the Glider in Conway's "Life", but you can read more about him here.

I saw, and heard, Bruno play many times, and had the occasional wonderful dinner with him.
He was a lovely, lovely man, and I am deeply saddened by his passing.

About this time 25 years ago, I was telling a colleague and friend that there had been a terrible air accident in New York.
I didn't know that her boyfriend and colleague of us both had flown off the day before for a meeting...
... in New York...
... In the North Tower.
I didn't know. She hadn't seen the news.
The only not dreadful thing is that he was on the impact floor, so he probably didn't know a thing about it.
I still feel dreadful.

Taking a moment to remember Vicky Neal. Lovely, *lovely* woman ... a huge loss.

I just heard that an old friend and colleague with whom I’d lost touch has died. There are lots of things to be said by people closer to them than I had become. But this person was kind, and classy, and creative. And by being all of that, they made the world, and so many other people’s lives, far better. If you know anyone like that, tell them so.
