#Pride seems really sparsely attended this year in #Toronto -- I'm sure that Fifa driving the price of visiting the city way up, and the efficiency of transit way down, isn't helping matters. And, of course, many corporations (especially those from the U.S.) aren't bothering with rainbow-washing now that the political compass has shifted away from a world where we're a valuable commodity. But it's notable that #PrideToronto has continued to take a super problematic stance on cops, and has kept inviting them and giving them money, even with all the nonsense happening around the world and a massive, ongoing police corruption scandal in the city.
It makes me sad to see so many people either skipping events altogether, or feeling pushed to create alternative spaces with less history, community, and funding. Much as I understand the impetus behind something like #AbolitionistPride , I personally don't like ceding ground and walking away from the spaces we already had, and I really prefer to take disruptive steps to take back what was already ours (the #TakeBackTransMarch people have the right idea, in my opinion).
Walked both Trans March and Dyke March with small contingents from my union, and am signed up tomorrow to distribute water and swag at the union float. Bought some handmade art (cute linocut prints on zipper bags!), had drinks with friends. But it's empty out there. No lines at the bar patios, and plenty of elbow room in the street. Feels sad.

5/𧡠on π³οΈβπ month
I don't know how people are pretending to be shocked that this shit is happenings. The ramp up to it has been taking place FOR MONTHS.
There have been bomb threats. There has been arson. This videoΒΉ was from Abolitionist, this past Sunday.
Pay attention.
The fight for people's rights is on your doorstep. Get out there._____
ΒΉ Thanks to @TonyYVCE for the pixelated clip which blurs out the people who didn't consent to be recorded. -
Looks like I attached the wrong image for the alt text on that first post.
I guess it gives me the chance to post a few more of my favourite moments.

It was SO NICE to have an entire weekend of #antifascist action without the wannabe microcelebutante and her creepy-assed goombah henchman/spouse filming everyone's fucking shoes and trying to make it all about herself.
ππΎ We chased off fash. (Today literally; yesterday they saw how badly they were outnumbered and fled of their own free will, a couple of them despite insisting they had the right to be there.)
π© Assholes were told.
π₯³ We partied with friends (I saw a good 90% of her Toronto targets in the past 2 days).
π We made new friends and got WORK done.
π€£ Nico Hines seems to have realized his usual crew are just a bunch of racist shitstains. (He's still a transphobic flat-Earther dickhead, though. Don't feel sorry for his ass β it had to be tossed out today.)
π¨ Finished it all with a lovely art show at Kensington Market Pedestrian Sunday.

AND NO USELESS SHITLIBS WERE ENTERTAINED BY ANY OF IT.
ππΎ ππΎ ππΎ ππΎIt'd be real sa'd if certain people never made it back to town.

Unclear on the "Abolitionist" part of #AbolitionistPride, police have been trying to take over coordination of the March since we got on Queen Street.

I am, as always, pulling up the back. Coming up Queen Street.

ΒΉPride was a riot, we will not be quiet.
