  1. Lecturer:
Why are people doing this course?

    Me:
I'm a police and prison abolitionist, I believe that the system we have now not only doesn't work, but it creates immense amounts of harm.

    Next person:
I'm very similar to Aby. I worked in Corrective Services and am now working in disability services. I want to meld these two types of work and work with disabled prisoners.

umm.. THESE THINGS ARE NOT SIMILAR

  7. It is absolutely no coincidence that this decision is made public on National Sorry Day.

    _____

Northern Territory police have confirmed they have declined to charge the two off-duty officers involved in an arrest over the death of 24-year-old Kumanjayi White, a Warlpiri man who lived with cognitive disabilities.

White died on 27 May last year during a confrontation with police in a Coles supermarket. His death sparked nationwide rallies and outrage, with calls for accountability and an independent probe.

The Northern Territory police commissioner, Martin Dole, said the Director of Public Prosecutions and territory police had conducted a fair and thorough investigation over the past 12 months.

“A brief of evidence was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions for their opinion. Following consideration of all available evidence, including the independent expert report, the DPP formed the view that there was no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution,” Dole said.

The commissioner acknowledged the ongoing distress, anger and grief of White’s family and the Northern Territory Aboriginal community.

“While the decision not to proceed with charges was made based on the evidence and applicable legal thresholds, we recognise this outcome may be difficult for Kumanjayi White’s family – a man lost his life.”

Tomorrow marks the first anniversary of White’s death.

Simple... the homeless population is roughly the size as the current prison population.

The second you make the homeless arrestable JUST for being homeless you double the demand for prisons OVER NIGHT.

  18. [edit: I found them. It's @Ceejayevylyn - commission work with them!]

This is the piece of art I commissioned with my birthday money this year!

I'd had the idea of the message you often get in games, "enemies are vulnerable to their opposite elements", with regards to armed resistance, ICE and molotovs... but I have absolutely ZERO artistic skills.

I posted here about it, and was approached by CJ Evelyn who was interested in the idea as well.

Working with them was an absolute breeze! They were helpful and listened to exactly what I wanted, super communicative and absolutely helped me get the idea I wanted out of my aphantasic brain and into a visual artwork.

I'd love to tag them here, but their account got stolen and I can't find the new one - so, CJ.. if you're following me, please reach out so I can tag your account!

This is the watermarked image (I don't want their art stolen, but definitely feel free to repost with watermarks and credit!)

    CJ, thank you again.

Everyone else, definitely recommend commissioning revolutionary art and definitely recommend commissioning from CJ.

  20. Well this is a fucking horrifying read about a practice that needs to be banned immediately.

At the time of his death, Spring was being illegally detained. The previous day, Dec. 23, 2022, a judge had ordered his release.

What happened next was only revealed when reporters obtained internal staff incident reports.

Guards describe Spring, who’d been diagnosed with schizophrenia, as unstable and having difficulty managing his emotions.

A fight broke out with another inmate and correctional officers intervened. Guards pepper-sprayed the young man and forced him into a spit hood, a head covering made of mesh and fabric that first responders put on people to protect themselves from being spit on.

Handcuffed and hooded, Spring was thrown into a shower, where he was pepper-sprayed once more. When staff took him to his cell, they realized Spring was no longer breathing.

The full, much more horrifying article, is available at the link:

  22. Oh look, NSW laws being used to silence the protest against Aboriginal deaths in custody.

    Shocked.

    _____

Protesters in Sydney have vowed to return for 'Invasion Day' rallies on 26 January after being dispersed at a rally against Indigenous deaths in custody on Sunday.

In the lead-up to the event, demonstrators said they were planning to march in defiance of the NSW government's controversial new protest laws.

However, moments before protesters were set to march from Hyde Park, police told event organiser Paul Silva to ask the crowd to "disperse in a peaceful and orderly manner".

Silva then told the crowd of about 200 people — according to the Australian Associated Press — that he thought it would be "the safest option if we disperse".

"I don't want anyone being attacked and, unfortunately, these laws will allow that," Silva said.

Following the Bondi terror attack, NSW passed new legislation giving the state's police commissioner the power to restrict protests for up to three months after a designated terrorist incident.

Police say they're now negotiating with organisers over the rallies planned for 26 January, Australia Day. A spokesperson has said the NSW Police commissioner has yet to make a decision on whether to renew the ban, which is set to lapse on Tuesday 20 January.

  31. Indonesia Update Situations of a Satria Putra (Pustaka Catut) and a Call for Solidarity!

Our friend, Bima Satria Putra, who has been held in prison alongside his friend since early December 2021 for their 15-year sentences due to weed possession, is currently being subjected to solitary confinement.

On October 18th, 2025, between the afternoon and evening, Bima was taken out of his cell by the officers in Merah Mata Prison, Palembang, Indonesia, where he’s been serving his sentence.

At the time of writing (October 30th, 2025, 10AM GMT+7), we are yet unable to ascertain what caused Bima to be taken from his cell,
where/what else he has been taken or subjected to, and by whose orders.
Moreover, the legal counsel appointed to assist Bima is being obstructed from access by the prison administration, and has been unable to reach Bima thus far.

Up to this point, we suspect and are determined that what Bima has
undergone this past week is related to the Indonesian government’s
recent counter-insurgent efforts, with the aim of decimating anarchist movements and groups (mirroring their similar genocidal efforts against communist movements in the 60s).

Throughout his time in prison, Bima is actively committed to the
propagandizing and dissemination of anarchist ideas through his
publications in Pustaka Catut – an alternative book publishing project which he operates independently (Instagram: @pustakacatut).

What we are able to ascertain at this point, are that (1) Bima has been put into solitary confinement in Lapas Merah Mata, Palembang, Sumatera Selatan, Indonesia; and (2) the Instagram account @pustakacatut is no longer under his control (possibly being overtaken by the Indonesian police).

For these reasons, through this communication, we hereby call for
support and solidarity from our anti-authoritarian friends—from anywhere and any group(s)—to help distribute this information and send messages in solidarity to Bima, to show that he is not alone in this.
