  1. Landlords: Are we workers or investors?
    - Landlords, or, Landbastards are rentiers, they are not investors who have put money into a company to extract part of it's productive capacity, they did not build the houses they rent out.
Landbastards: But we pay taxes on our income.
    - We all pay taxes, except my revenue stream comes from my work and yours comes from 30% of mine.

There is no community without housing security. It's difficult it add value to your surrounding without that. #DemoniseLandlords #AbolishLandlords #Novara #NovaraMedia

  2. A public construction program would be self-sustaining once the houses started selling, it wouldn't create the possibility of deteriorating public housing and maintenance costs, and it could increase or decrease construction projects based on the number of unhoused people or people spending more than a certain percentage of their income on rent.

  3. An idea rolling around in my head: like building and maintaining roads, local governments could hire construction crews to build housing for sale on the private market, even at full "market rates", in order to increase housing supply and thus decrease housing prices.

  4. Well. I don't want to say our landlord doesn't maintain his building properly but....

  5. Oh sweet, yeah, my apartment building is being sold to new management, what could possibly go wrong?

  6. Holy cow, this really ties together so many different thoughts and questions I've had rolling around in my brain about economics, rent and capitalism. I already strongly believe we should #AbolishLandlords, but turns out the landlords are far more numerous than I realized.

h/t to @pluralistic for leading me here.

  7. We present here a form for Montrealers pledging to go on #RentStrike either in Fall 2023 or when we reach the requisite amount of pledges. The rent strike is against #Bill31 (#ProjetDuLoi31 or #PDL31) proposed by the #CAQ, for housing the unhoused, and against the rent increases that #Quebec landlords have been demanding of tenants.

If 5,001 people fill out this pledge (that's five thousand plus one), a rent strike will be called. If 5,001 people do not fill out this pledge, then anyone who has filled it out does not need to go on rent strike. The rent strike committee will contact you for strike meetings and to let you know if 5,001 pledges to strike have been received.
