CW: Racism, link preview may depict racist stereotypes
Great but difficult read from ECAMP.
As important as it is to know and share history worth celebrating, now more than ever we must remember the ugly parts of our history too.
Edmonton, Alberta, and Canada are built on a whole lot of racism by a whole lot of racist people. We must learn and acknowledge that before we can hope to pretend we're past it (we aren't, not even close).

YORK FACTORY EXPRESS JOURNAL, 1847:
"Fine pleasant weather. Started from #Jasper's House at 10 o'clock, and as the current was strong, we got down a good distance. #AthabascaRiver
"Monday. Cold, disagreeable day. Snowing the whole time. Made a good day's work.
"Tuesday. Fine weather. Arrived at Fort Assiniboine at 4 pm and had the boat hauled up. Encamped at a short distance from the Fort where the Horses are to be brought tomorrow morning. #ABHistory #AmWritingHistory #HistoricJourney #Books -
YORK FACTORY EXPRESS JOURNAL, 1827:
"At breakfast time two of our canoes required gumming. We afterwards ascended a chain of rapids to the head of Rapids des Mors where, as our canoes require gumming again, we encamped at 5 pm. At 8 of these rapids, which are very strong, three of the canoes were handed up -- only one has been able to ascend under the poles which is owing to the dexterity of the Boute. Lafrance and Jollibois are on the recovery.

This central Alberta community was originally a Swiss colony before the entire town moved and changed its name thanks to the railroad.
