    Super.

  13. And 39 now with 2 out of control.

To be clear, it is not the absolute number which concern me in itself. However, the more fires there are, the greater the chance one will go big near a populated place. Any of the hundreds already out could have been that but did not. Will the next small fire be the one to take out a village, town or a segment of a city? We do not know.

  14. Alberta wildfires by year to current date of March 2nd. This year is well ahead at 31. Same date in 2023 only had 13.

We have currently 52 active fires meaning by subtraction there are 21 'zombie' fires which have so far survived the winter.

The forecast for the end of the week is again into melting temperatures.

  15. Alberta STILL has 75 wild fires. If any had wind like Edmonton, some will jump from 'Under Control' to 'Being Held' or worse.

Area burned this year is staying stable at 2.2 million ha or 5.4 million acres.

How much fossil fuel is used to fight all these fires? It all adds to the atmospheric carbon load but so does the burned trees.

  20. Good news for #ABFires.

I marked the two maps as sensitive as it is just so tragic.

  22. Moving up!
Alberta now has 84 active wild fires. Lowest I saw was 78 in recent months but perhaps it dropped a bit lower. Meanwhile, 2.2 MILLION Ha or 5.4 MILLION acres have burned in areas with provincial responsibility.*

  23. Map of active fires in western Canada from the CIFFC home page as taken 18 Sept 2023.

Just now looking and Alberta seems to have relatively more yellow tags for Under Control than other places. In comparing AB and SK, I could find no definition of type which would explain this. BC has mountains and getting at fires is complicated by that. Is this visible difference by resources then?
