Ann Arbor: if your kids attend AAPS it's important to know the teachers are currently working without a contract!
The current narrative the board is pushing is that they'll just cancel all the specials to balance the budget. A friend of mine wrote this last night and I think it's worth reading:

Share widely and email the board and superintendent. It can be simple! Just "What the heck?!" is useful!

Are there other ways for parents to apply pressure to a school board other than writing emails and showing up to meetings? Like, if we hadn't already missed count day I would organize a sick out for my kids on that day. #aaps

Allgemeine Altpapiersammlung 2025
Liebe Mitbloggende, was haltet ihr von einer – weiteren1 – kleinen Blogaktion zum Jahresabschluss? Ich musste kürzlich an die Allgemeine Altpapiersammlung von Olivier Samter denken, die er in den Zehnerjahren stets Ende November losgetreten hatte. Mir ist danach, diese schöne Tradition wieder aufleben zu lassen.
Zehn verschmähte Blogposts
Es geht darum, jene Blogposts des Jahres noch einmal hervorzuholen, die kaum oder gar keine Kommentare oder sonstige Reaktionen erhalten haben, auf dass sie zum Jahresende doch noch etwas Liebe erfahren. Die Regeln sind dabei denkbar einfach. Ich erlaube mir, aus Olivers erstem Aufruf von 2012 zu zitieren:
„Dabei soll jeder teilnehmende Blogger zehn seiner Meinung nach unterschätzte (eigene) Posts auflisten bzw. anpreisen. Am Besten einfach einen kurzen Satz zum jeweiligen Beitrag schreiben, damit die Leser wissen, worauf sie sich einlassen. Gleichzeitig ist man dazu angehalten, und das ist der meiner Meinung nach viel wichtigere Teil der Aktion, bei anderen Teilnehmern auf die Listen zu schauen, und sich den ein oder anderen erwähnten Beitrag dort genauer anzusehen und wenn möglich, auch etwas dazuzuschreiben.“
Wer sammelt mit?
Ich werde es in diesem Jahr so halten und bis Ende der Woche meine AAPS-Liste zusammenstellen und verbloggen. Wer mitmachen möchte, darf die eigene Liste gern bis 30. November2 hier drunter in den Kommentaren verlinken und/oder im sozialen Medium eigener Wahl verbreiten. Als Hashtags böten sich #AAPS und #AAPS25 an. Würde mich freuen, wenn das eine oder andere #Blog dabei ist – bin aber auch nicht traurig, wenn es eine Ein-Personen-Show bleibt.

@pathunstrom i remember when citsci2017 made the difficult (from a logistics point of view) decision to move their conference due to discriminatory laws passed in NC. they were ahead of the curve (nearly a decade), given the situation today.
i applaud that decision then and submit it as inspiration to other conferences to hopefully make the right decision now.

The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons is a small group of physicians who, under a false authoritative name, advocate for #farright conservative values in the practice of medicine. While purporting to have high regard for the Hippocratic Oath, "the sanctity of the patient-physician relationship, and the "practice of private medicine", it appears to treat these concepts as terms of art. Despite also calling itself "non-partisan", its main focus appears to be #antiabortion, vaccination, universal health care coverage and Obamacare in particular, and birth control.
These concerns evidence a particular contempt for women's health and wellness. The #AAPS specifically opposes vaccination for HPV, a known cancer-causing virus for which a vaccine administered to young women is extremely effective. The group also makes the objectively false claim that there is a meaningful correlation between abortion and breast cancer.

@Frank_Juston @dborch @bkastl Bin selber T1 und super happy, dass ich nicht auf die Herstellersoftware angewiesen ist. Für mich ist Hacken an der erstelle eine Befreiung. Mein Punkt war eher, dass zwar guter Code geschrieben wird, aber nicht immer auch wieder der Community geteilt wird. #AAPS ist ein positives Gegenbeispiel dazu. Aber die aktuelle FreeStyle Libre 3 patcherei per Juggluco ist aus Open Source Perspektive eher ein Graus. (selbst wenn es gut funktioniert)

Turns out if your insulin pump expires overnight and you don't get up to put on a new one, you get a very clear reminder how how much you rely upon an artificial pancreas!
