Openers Nachtmaer, a side project of locals Kludde, showcased a succession of singers. Howling Black Metal both atmospheric and primitive, appealing muchly to an already-eager crowd.

Atmosphere of a more psychedlic ilk with Wolvennest, defying the outside chill and debuting new bassist VaathV. An extended set covering all aspects of their illustrious back catalogue melted my mind in pure rapture.

Although I kept my movements secret for various nefarious reasons, it was great to surprise dear friends on the night. Rewarded as I was by the headliners’ best performance yet.

Read some news that made me sad, from my local news station: The roller skate rink I frequented every Wednesday afternoon in the '80's, is going out of business end of August after 41 years. I loved rollerskating, but even more: I loved the 20+ arcade games they had next to the rink. It's where my weekly allowance went, after paying the entrance and a Coke. Today there was an official welcome moment for new inhabitants (and returnees, like me, I guess) of the city of #Aalst, Belgium. So now I’m officially an Onion again.

Come and visit, it’s a lovely area and the city has some cool history and good food and there’s lots of nature nearby. And if you want carnival, we’ve got that too (be prepared to be offended for 3 days straight if you’re sensitive. Even UNESCO learned that).
