The only effect of #farmers #protests (both here in UK and across North Sea in NL) is that I now view any #tractor on #A12 and #A14 highway with suspicion, even when its very likely they are doing legitimate agricultural work.
Previous to the protests I just though of them as normal vehicles to see on the roads in a semi rural area..

#Whisky galore - but #driving a #lorry on #A14 is not the place for it!
This #driver was put before #Court within just a few days and banned from the roads (he only got suspended sentence, its not usual to get prison time for any #motoring offence unless there's been a serious crash with injuries/fatalities)
Whats more worrying is he clearly isn't driving a wagon up and down the highway for fun - someone employed him to transport something, and isn't vetting their #drivers correctly.
He should be in rehab and nowhere near a vehicle (especially not the same roads I have to drive on, and I've already seen quite a bit of sketchy stuff in #Cambridgeshire )

The only result of the #Farmers #protests is I'm now highly suspicious of any #tractor I see on #A14 #highway - in spite of the fact its almost certainly being used for legitimate agricultural work in the local area rather than just being driven slowly to hold up the traffic, and I refuse to pay the premium price for "local produce" (sometimes sold at village shops) as I'm thinking "are these the same bunch who were protesting earlier in the year?"

Once again parts of #OrwellBridge in #Ipswich #Suffolk closed due to rush hour #collision (#car vs #lorry) with one #fatality and one #arrest
if its not possible to quickly reduce #CarDependency (and realistically it is not), nor build the #NorthernBypass - then there's a real need to further encourage #FlexibleWorking and more people to move away from 9-5 working hours - all these crashes seem to happen around rush hour, whereas same #A14 highway is a lot quieter in afternoons and evenings (there's still lorries, but they are more spread out and not so many bottlenecks at the junctions)

In #Cambs, random one-off or two-off speed limit signs have been popping up over the last few weeks. Last week it was an isolated 40 where the #M11 northbound meets the #A14 westbound, and this week there are two 50 signs between #BarHill and #DryDrayton. Both seem dangerous but the latter more so as both signs are on the far left of the 4 busy eastbound lanes and therefore not visible to the majority of drivers.

What on Earth is going on with the signed speed limits on the #A1307 in #Huntingdonshire and the #A14 in #Cambridgeshire at the moment?

Drove the almost rebuilt A14 Vilnius-Moletai road. Usable, but still slower than the 172 next to it thanks to two construction traffic lights.
A lot of yet unmarked road, traffic diversions, you have to go around a bridge being worked on instead of under and for what must be historical reasons, a 10m long section of the old Betonke, just as reminder how bad that was.
Much of it is single lane traffic with a center barrier, no overtaking apart from a few sections with two lanes.
So many excavators on this stretch of road you'd hardly notice if one sunk irretrievably into a swamp*
I guess they were needed to distribute the many quarries worth of gravel that got piled up there.

#HPC-Update:

A late night drive last night/early this morning to test a #navi app also showed up the effect of the current and previous Governments on #Britain (or at least #Ipswich #Suffolk) - not only did I have the #A14 almost to myself (not even lorries), even the urban / suburban streets were dead.
10-30 years ago the same streets and even car parks would have been buzzing with young people getting to the next party or just hanging out but whole area was 100% dead.
OK it meant I didn't have to worry about jaywalkers or other drivers who weren't 100% sober, but it felt like puritans are rubbing their hands in glee knowing they have finally succeeded in getting everyone home and into bed before midnight just like it was before about 1988/9....

In 1nm land, Intel tries to find customers for #A18, and TSMC announced it will build four new fabs for #A14 because of "strong structural demand".
Also we haven't heard from the #TSMC-led consortium wanting to run Intel foundry fabs. Seems that race in #semiconductors is over, again.

A 21 year old #mechanic and #technician from #Lotus was killed on the #A14 highway in #Rougham #Suffolk and his friend badly injured after he drove an #Emira at 100 mph (160 km/h) or more in Winter 2023 and lost control due to a wet road surface and possibly unsuitable #tyres
(the #SpeedLimit for such a highway in England is 70 mph (112 km/h) )
