  1. I'm personally neither a fan nor a critic of Brennan Lee Mulligan's roleplaying style. But I did enjoy The Power Broker episode where they interviewed Brendan, in part about his D&D campaign patterned as a sort of mythic NYC shaped by an esoteric version of Robert Moses, inspired directly by this book.

Potentially of interest to roleplayers, historians, and civics junkies.

  2. CW: podcast about death and burial, animals eating human corpses

Listened to a somewhat gruesome, but also respectful & incredibly fascinating episode of #99PercentInvisible yesterday.

The #Parsi community in India traditionally practices sky burial: The bodies of the deceased are placed on top of a stone structure, where they would be eaten by vultures, often in less than an hour.

But what happens when humans accidentally kill basically all of the vultures?

  3. I just finished reading The Power Broker and, man, that was a heck of a book!

I feel like RM was the epitome of the "brilliant jerk".

It makes me wonder what things would be like in New York (and elsewhere) if he had built public transit they way he built roads.

    All-in-all, a good book. I'd recommend it.

(I started it because of 99% Invisible, but then I just kept reading...)

I first heard about "99 Percent Invisible" from former #Mythbuster Adam Savage. It's hard to define, but the blurry focus is on design (from fashion to skyscrapers) and the systems that make the world work, but it's much, much more. It's fascinating, informative, and often dryly funny. Host Roman Mars is a treasure.

  5. Monday is the 50th anniversary of the coup d'état against Allende's democratically-elected government of Chile and with it the end to #ProjectCybersyn: an experimental computer network for the distributed management of the economy. Here are several well produced podcasts capturing the hopes and dreams about technology during this unique time:

  6. @seb One of my favorite podcasts, 99 Percent Invisible, has done a few episodes about flags, all the way back to their 6th episode in 2010.

And the host, Roman Mars, did a TED Talk on the subject.
