#ThursDeath this week is just one song. PHANTASM covered the Yardbirds' 'For Your Love' on their 'The Abominable' demo in 1992. The rest of the demo I'm not into, but this is my #1 favorite metal cover of anything, and one of my overall favorite covers of all time.

This is the re-release that Dark Descent did in 2023. 'Ritual of Infinity' is a great, twisting, winding OSDM classic with tons of crushing guitar chugging, basslines, great drums, and cavernous, roared vocals.

Yo, kid, I heard you like 90s death metal demos. I gots another one for you with this week's #ThursDeath. BOTULISM was from Marlborough, Massachusetts and they only released one demo in 1997, 'Feasts of Lunacy', before disbanding in 1998. It was re-released last year. It's weird, it's riffy, it has some rattly snare, it's cool as fuck.

This is a masterclass in OSDM-- brutality, wild riffage, killer drums, solid dynamics, great guttural vocals. The last track here is a bonus track, added from a 2001 compilation, and it's excellent too. I can only imagine how fuckin incredible these guys would've been if they'd continued. It's so great that Doomed to Obscurity Records has been re-releasing all this older metal.

#ThursDeath this week is the incredible 'Final Wrath - the Early Works of Lobotomy'. This is a collection of early Lobotomy recordings, which are WAY more badass and powerful than their later LPs, in my opinion. This is a 2 disc collection, and some songs are repeated. I cut some of the recordings of the same songs and some live/demo stuff from the end and basically chose my favorite recordings of each duplicated song.

Earlier this week I ran across a KILLER death metal album from 1993. For this week's #ThursDeath, the fucking MASTERPIECE of a record 'Circle of Evolution' by SCHISMATIC from Poland. Maybe some of you guys know this one already (@djrobotham)?
This is a GREAT no-frills death metal record -- my favorite kind. No samples, no intro. Just riffage, chugging, growls, perfection. Some wild funk bass later on in the tracks. Don't miss this one if you haven't heard it.

I've actually never heard of " #OrientalMetal " before
#Genre was maybe the wrong word to use before (not sure if I should go back and change it?) the geographic label is more just a "category" that overlaps with genre and style.

But that isn't simple either… it could be a language category if not for the English Language band "Emigrate" featuring #RichardKruspe from #Rammstein … and one track from "Oomph!" in English
and it doesn't work as a national category because it features #Nachtmar from #Austria and #Laibach from #Slovenia (both a bit problematic) but at least they didn't include the bands from the USA that use some #German in their lyrics? (often less problematic, just not very German)
maybe "German Metal" works as a "theme"?
I'm not sure if "Arab metal" works as a category at all? Maybe "Arabic metal" including a few related tracks like that "German metal" list?
