One of the better blues guitarists to come along in the past 30 years. I’ve always wished he would’ve shown up around the time I was at my first album rock radio gig in the mid 80s but he made the playlist on my unit’s pirate radio station in Mosul in 2004 as well as the Saturday morning classic rock show I co-hosted in 2008 at U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay. And here on deck, of course. 😉

One of the things I like about my son-in-law is he is - like me - a fan of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. After he and my daughter said their vows on their wedding day in 2013, the song that played as they left the alter of the church was this Tom Petty tune. I was a happy camper even if I was in a suit and tie. It kicked ass.

A band I was introduced to by the dude who was my first sergeant on our 2004 deployment to Mosul in northern Iraq. Obviously, I programmed this tune and a few off Stir’s self-titled debut album for our pirate radio station broadcasting out of Saddam Hussein’s former palace. Side note - the palace was destroyed by the Royal Air Force in 2014.

Something from a band I was made aware of just prior to my 2004 Iraq deployment whose tuneage ended up on our pirate radio station we ran out of what had been Saddam Hussein’s palace in Mosul and I played four years later on the Navy’s radio station while deployed to U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay.

This album/CD/cassette kicks ass and this particular tune from these guys was one of my “Iraq tunes” while deployed there in 2004, making the music rotation on our pirate radio station that rocked northern Iraq. The Pentagon had issues with it but we were in a fairly active combat zone and, quite frankly, didn’t give a shit what some desk jockey in D.C. thought. 😉
