No lie, #EastSideStory remains one of the best bootleg compilation series EVER. In my book, it beats out #KilledByDeath (punk rarity ≠ punk quality) while running neck and neck with #BornBad (Lux & Ivy = great taste). But it's most perfect on #8Track: all those teenage tales of broken hearts, the desperate, welling tears, and of course the soulful falsettos ringing out from your car stereo as you cruise the blvd-of-your-memory one last time.

2) play lead guitar on a garage-y later 80s #AngrySamoans track entitled "Unhinged"
3) form #MooseheartFaithStellarGrooveBand with ex-Angry Samoan Todd Homer who sounded like obscure, privately-pressed late 60s psychedelic bands on every one of their dozen+ CDs/EPs
4) play lead guitar in the LA-based freejazz/freakrock/comedy collective #HollywoodSquaretet in the early 2000sNot too many #Motown alumni have gone on to navigate such uncharted musical terrain.

Update: this has been released on a Brazilian label called Liga Do Vento Divino, both digitally and as a limited edition #8track cartridge.”

#8TrackMind was a neat zine started in the early 90s by #RussForster, ostensibly to bring together the #8TrackTape community in all it's eccentric, nostalgic, and perverse varieties. For years it was a regular resource for information about 8-tracks, and was the only place that jokes about that dreaded KER-CHUNK! sound could reliably be grokked. The initial run ended in 2000, but a lo-budge film documentary followed, and I understand Russ revived the mag proper a few years back. Nope this isn't an #8TrackTape - rather it's a late-60s #2Track rival format that never caught on: the #Playtape. A shorter tape length meant these would only hold abbreviated album or EP-length recordings. I've only ever seen a few in the wild, but Wiki tells me over 3,000 artists once published in this format.

In the broad wake of #Deodato's 1973 smash-hit "Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001)", STAR-PHASE was one of many studio groups (made up of "Tommy, Steve, Carolyn, Ron and Stephanie") who tried to cash in with disco-fied, instrumental versions of sci-fi movie themes from the day. They weren't at all successful and only ever got released on #8TrackTape. This means even today, grizzled hip-hop beat hunters haven't plundered their recordings. Yet.

I mean, his Metal Machine Music #8Tracks (particular the Quad version) are some of the few tapes to have regularly fetched higher collector prices for a few decades now.
But add he did: 23 secs of inexplicable incidental piano/synth grafted ungracefully on the end of the title track "Berlin". Has this ever been reissued? Check it out at the 2:56 mark.
