  1. Hands down one of the best Van Halen tunes ever; I loved playing this one on the radio. And it got some coyotes going off to the right of me on deck. 😳

  2. A public service announcement with guitar …

May 14, 1982 ~ The Clash release Combat Rock. That's Allen Ginsburg you hear doing guest vocals on Ghetto Defendant and Ellen Foley on Car Jamming. (Ellen sings opposite in Meatloaf's Paradise By The Dashboard Light though it's Carla DeVito lipsyncing in the video.) A young cow-punker by the name of Joe Ely can be heard on Should I Stay or Should I Go. #theclash #combatrock #80smusic #music #musicsky #musiciansky #80srock

  5. Melissa Etheridge

Her debut album is released on May 2, 1988 and rock radio loves it. People started calling her the next Janis Joplin but, while the comparisons were inevitable, she forged her own sound over the years and has become one of the most respected blues/rock artists around. 6. Be Yourself Tonight

Some call it the best "pop-rock" album of the 80's. April 29, 1985 ~ Eurythmics release Be Yourself Tonight. It's considered their most successful albums and the artists there to lend a hand is impressive: Benmont Tench, Aretha Franklin, Mike Campbell, Stan Lynch, Stevie Wonder and Elvis Costello. 7. Check your four wheel drive …

TP & The Heartbreakers release Let Me Up (I've Had Enough) on April 27, 1987. It's their un-live "live album" ... having just got done touring as Dylan's back-up band and wanting something a little more raw than the previous album Southern Accents. #tompettyandtheheartbreakers #tompetty #LetmeupIvehadenough #rock #rockmusic #heartlandrock #music #musicsky #musiciansky #80srock #80smusic

  8. Empty Glass

Pete's solo album is released April 21, 1980 -- generally considered his best solo work. He wrote it during some troubled times -- the death of Keith Moon, alcoholism, spiritual searching and his own struggle with his fame as one of rock's icons. It's a great album -- many think better than anything coming out of The Who at the time. #petetownshend #emptyglass #80srock #rockmusic #music #musicsky #musiciansky #pop #rock #thewho

  9. British Steel

The sixth from Judas Priest is released April 14, 1980. It's one of the bedrocks of the New Wave Briitsh Heavy Metal and replaced their earlier "darker" stuff with radio-friendly anthems that helped the album sell well over 1M units. #judaspriest #britishsteel #80srock #rockmusic #80smusic #music #musicsky #musiciansky #robhalford #hardrock #heavymetal

  10. “Decide yourself if radio’s gonna to stay …”

R.E.M.'s debut Murmur is released on April 12, 1983. It's Rolling Stone's Best Album of 1983 beating out Michael Jackson's Thriller, Synchronicity from The Police and U2's War. It's considered one of the most influential debut albums in rock history -- it set the bar for indie and alt-rockers that would follow. #rem #murmur #80srock #rock #rockmusic #alternativerock #altrock #athensga #classicrock #music #musicsky

It's #4 from The Cult and it's released on April 10, 1989. It features some their biggest hits that push it to #10 on the US charts, including "Sweet Soul Sister" and "Sun King." 12. Reckoning

Album #2 from R.E.M. released on April 9, 1984. It's produced by Mitch Easter and Don Dixon who both wanted to capture the essence of the R.E.M. live performance with the album. The critics loved the album and Reckoning reached number 27 in the United States—where it was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1991—and peaked at number 91 in the United Kingdom. #rem #reckoning #80srock #rock #rockmusic #classicrock #indierock #music

  14. I realize I missed a day …

Scorpions release Blackout on March 29, 1982. After losing his voice during the writing of the album lead singer Klaus Meine had to undergo surgery on his vocal cords and it wasn't certain if he would be able to record. Don Dokken stepped in for some demos but none of those recordings are featured on the album and he is only credited with backing vocals. #scorpions #blackout #80srock #rock #rockmusic #classicrock #hardrock #music #musicsky

Depeche Mode releases their 7th on March 19, 1980. It's considered by many to be the band's magnum opus and one of the most influential synth-pop and alternative rock albums ever. The album features some of the band's most iconic singles, including "Personal Jesus," "Enjoy the Silence," "Policy of Truth," and "World in My Eyes." Violator is ranked #167 on Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time." #depechemode #violator #80smusic #80srock #rockmusic

  16. One more thing from my Tom Petty listening adventure (I did After Dark from 82, Let Me Up from 87 and Hypnotic Eye from '14) - in another life, I was a producer. Let Me Up is a fantastic record, and Tom had help with Bob writing one of the three singles, 'Jammin Me', but the 3 they chose for the singles, NONE of them are as good as the record's 9th track, 'Ain't Love Strange', which I (or anyone else who hadn't heard this record) would've missed - but it's gotta be one of Tom's best songs. Fuckin unreal.

Here. Listen to THIS shit. And then listen to all of 'Let Me Up (I've Had Enough)': youtu.be/NXysGNwC0w4

  17. The memory remains …

Late in 1981 an ad in The Recycler, an LA weekly, reads: "Drummer looking for other metal musicians to jam with Tygers of Pan Tang, Diamond Head and Iron Maiden." Guitarists James Hetfield and Hugh Tanner of Leather Charm answered the advertisement and on March 14, 1982, Metallica makes their live debut on the Radio City stage in Aneheim, California. #metallica #80smetal #80srock #hughtanner #jameshetfield #larsulrich #rock #rockmusic #music

  18. Just listened to Tom Petty's 'After Dark' (from 1982) fully for the first time, (I of course knew the song 'You Got Lucky') - but I get to the end, and the last song, 'A Wasted Life' had this melody that I couldn't place.. until I did. It's like, the EXACT same melody (and even NOTES, I just listened to them one after the other) as Vanity Faire's single 'Hitchin' a Ride' from 1969.

Through the years, Tom had different issues here and there with suing others for similar songs (Sam Smith) or not (the Chili Peppers) - and I loved the guy and his music (RIP), but man, Tom, 'A Wasted Life' is like, a DIRECT rip from 'Hitchin' a Ride'. 😂

  19. The Works

Released February 28, 1984 .. they quasi "come-back" album. After the experimental, dance-heavy Hot Space (1982), the album marked a return to their classic hard rock sound with 1980s synthesizers and electronics. The name originated from a comment by Roger Taylor at the start of the sessions: "Let's give 'them'em the works!" #queen #theworks #80srock #rock #rockmusic #music #musicsky #musiciansky #freddiemercury #brianmay #rogertaylor #johndeacon
