  1. My first step to #techindependence and #digitalsovereignty : I've signed up for a #nextcloud instance from a server outside the #5Eyes nations. I'll see how that'll work as a replacement for #microsoftoffice #microsoft365 and if that works out, I'll switch my web hosting and email there too.

  2. CW: US impression

    Seems to me that the US is experiencing the equivalent of an auto-immune disorder like multiple sclerosis* on a national level. It's been destroyed from within. Devastating, and pitiable.

    Here in Aotearoa, we need to disconnect ourselves from the US now. We need to back out of military alliances, especially #5Eyes, and trade agreements, especially the #CPTPPA Any idea that the US is a honourable (or even rational) actor need to be entirely revised.

    * I've got it

  3. Leaked unofficially verified documents indicate that New Zealand was in the loop about a planned attack on Iran by Israel.

    🧵 4/5+

    If you want a #5eyes comparison then i think the #UK is the only one that tried to make the number smaller for deaths.

    …where's that clip of the infamous #DrNick

  6. @djsumdog sounds like a good plot for a thriller movie, with plenty of twists and turns ;) Even if it's true though, it doesn't change what we know about the #5Eyes agencies and their cozy relationships with the #datafarm companies. People are arguing over whether the datafarms are subverting states or vice-versa. It's like arguing which cheek is in charge of someone's face.

  7. @jeremiah one other thing, Levine claims that the real threat to user privacy isn't governments, but corporations. In my country, the #GCSB, which is our equivalent of the #NSA and a member of the #5Eyes, had law passed where it can directly regulate what hardware telecoms corporations use in their networks, with no public oversight:

    So Levine is dead wrong, and having those claims published in the #Baffer can only cause damage.
