  1. She spied the tiny baby, an over-sized kidney bean, in the hotel's pool light.

The mysterious guest had told her, with a gleam, "Nothing ever dies."

It was Emaline, her dream, a miscarriage but alive!

    How to explain?

    Her heart reeled.

She held the bundle and rang the concierge.

    "Diapers?"

  2. Worrier

I am not supposed to be touching little Jesus inside my purse while I am at church.

But Uncle Danny gave me Jesus before he died.

I say, "Sorry Jesus," in case I touch his no-no square.

    Mama gives me a look.

"Don't worry, Lina," Jesus says to me.

  3. "Longing"

At sunset, she walks the beach hushing a nonexistent infant in her arms. But no one else has seen her, only me. They say I imagine her, dead and barren in my longing.

  4. His fat mitt, a hot potato, gripped my hand.

The smell of bloody chop steak declassed the place There was no pleasant aroma of char.

His eyes had an odd intensity.

If I stood to leave, his hand would tighten like Chinese handcuffs.

  5. Sometimes people we love are connected to #Halloween and the month of #October. Today, I'm posting a fictional micro about an aunt who didn't fit in with society. Tomorrow, I will post something even closer to home. #Storytober #microfiction #50WordFiction #Halloween #31DaysOfHalloween #Storytober

  6. As promised yesterday, a second gruesome Starbucks #50WordFiction for #Storytober. This #microfiction is inspired by a Starbucks I frequent---the drive through in particular---because of the excellent customer service. It's across from Sea World and makes especially delicious drinks for tourists. Universal is also down the street, hence the reference to #Halloween Horror Nights. It is also the setting of a WIP in which it is referred to as a "cafe." #horror #microhorror

  7. The two semi-fictional Orlando Starbucks in my #Fall / #Halloween #50WordFiction are portrayed with a couple of surprising encounters---one an unexpected attack in the queue and the other, to be posted tomorrow, an unnatural abduction at the drive-thru. 🖤 There's something wrong with me, lols. 💀(Know if you go to the links, you will read a brief depiction of violence or really more like an implication of violence. Nothing specific.) #Storytober #BiteSizeFiction

  8. I had a great time today in Sarah Jackson's workshop learning different ways to conceptualize ghosts. 🖤 I feel like today is my weekend. I'm behind on my ghostly and horrific writings for #Storytober. I wanted to share #50WordFiction penned in 2019, a letter written from a sister to her ghostly brother. I hope to also follow up on an inspiration from the workshop and will post the result soon. yay. 👻 #Halloween #31DaysOfHalloween #microhorror #horror

  9. I've got one more idea for the weekend in terms of writing a #Storytober short fiction, an idea that, like the previous post, focuses on emotion. (My previous post covered the feeling of anger and the revenge of ghosts/objects/nature.) This next emotion is grief and the use of ghosts and psychological phenomena as an answer/response/reaction to grief. Examples provided below. 🖤 💀 #31DaysOfHalloween #WritingCommunity #microfiction #50WordFiction #HorrorFiction #horrorwriters

  10. Another story about an area close to Oviedo, Florida is that it was settled by immigrants from Slovakia who were seeking to establish a religious community (Lutheran) where there would be "less temptation of the world and the wickedness of the large city." I took some of the historic legends of ghost sightings and the stories of the sound of children laughing as well as wailing and crying and spun a tiny #50WordFiction. #31DaysOfHalloween #microfiction #Storytober

  11. I may offer more suggestions for #Storytober but will likely gauge the rate of my offerings based on interest. If you are interested in writing small pieces or using the exercises to create a backlog of material to select from when writing longer work, let me know. 🖤 💀 I offer them for free on Mastodon. For more information on #50WordFiction see my posts on #50WordFriday. Storytober is meant for all lengths and genres. #WritingCommunity #Microfiction #horror #creativeprocess #ShortStory #writers

  12. It's #October #Day1! If you want to write a short, dark, bite-sized story for #Storytober, here's an idea: Google funeral traditions from your region or around the world and/or make up your own! Then write a short piece of unease using your chosen custom. I hope to see you on the hashtag! LMK if you have questions. I'll post links to my #50WordFiction pieces using today's idea as well as an example article re: funeral customs. #WritingCommunity #horror #Microfiction 🦇

  13. I need to attend to herbs in tiny pots in my bathroom sitting under a grow light. They would be better off in larger pots on my porch. They were from a delivery, and one is frail. When I went to a Central Florida garden center yesterday, I encountered vigorous herbs as well as other plants, some of which I bought. I did not pick up a croton petra. I already have a 4" croton, something the store's crotons would eat like an amuse bouche. A related #Storytober #50wordfiction

  14. If you are interested in writing dark fiction/horror this fall for #Storytober, I will be posting links to videos, articles, and example stories to help generate thoughts and ideas. Those who have written to prompts for #50WordFriday may be interested. I would like to expand beyond the 50-word challenge into longer lengths---ie, 175, 250, 500---though #50WordFiction is always lovely. Please refer to the hashtag #Storytober for updates. 🖤 💀
