  1. RE: highbias.org/@recursivedelete/

I operate a business (Recursive Delete Audio/Visual) where I #repair and refurbish #4track #cassette recorders. I receive machines for repair from across the USA, and would be glad to help with yours if needed! I also sell Type II cassettes and other related accessories.

Follow @recursivedelete to stay in the loop of all my #analog activities!

  2. Adrian Utley from #Portishead talks to Recording The Masters about why he appreciates recording to tape (and #cassette in particular) vs. a DAW. At the end he also demonstrates some #Mellotron -style tape loops on a Yamaha MT4X 4-track cassette recorder.

  3. RE: digitalcourage.social/@nielso/

I used a friend's #Yamaha PSR-36 on some #4Track home recordings back in the mid-90s, and decades later couldn't remember the particular model number of the keyboard — such warm FM synth tones.

Probably a year ago I saw two of them for sale at #McKays locations, one in Chattanooga and one in Nashville. Passed both times because I was feeling broke. I won't make that mistake the next time I spot one in the wild!

  4. @nielso A friend brought one of these over in the mid-90s and I recorded a handful of songs with it on #4Track. Honestly loved the warm FM tones!

Decades later I knew it was a Yamaha, but not which model number. I think seeing a YouTube video helped me figure it out. (The vertical "Digital Synthesizer" sliders were my only visual memory of it.)

I've found used ones for sale twice in the past year during trips to Tennessee but passed on them both times — next time I see one I'm claiming it!

  5. Psst: Did u know we European home computer users had a game that was called "Thing on a SPRING"? And what I'm about 2 announce is just such a lil spring thing… well… or not… um…. a spring thing nevertheless (it's March at least!)… it's a new issue of

    RADIO IRRTUM! !!

↓↓↓ Deutsch Version below unten ↓↓↓

Da next issue of #RadioIrrtum! will arrive this Saturday, 2026/03/14, 8:00pm UTC+1/Berlin time/CET. At Alex Berlin at DAB+ K12D in Berlin + Brandenburg and worldwide @ https://www.alex-berlin.de/radio-livestream .

A German language #radioShow exploring the sonic vastness of the #underground. Emitted transmissions may raise attention for new unheard #music. Don't worry about the #GermanLanguage aspect - this is about #music!

    So what's in it?

    - #AlternativePop
    - #BeatlessRap
    - #bassMusic
    - Chilli #electro
    - #cellphoneMusic
    - #ChansonKaput
    - depressive #Stimmungsschlager covers
    - #Dachapunk
    - #4track cassette stuff
    - dark #harpMusic
    - #classicalMusic

There will be some focus on limited recording envs (like playing live only with guitar + looper, using just a phone, or a 8- or even 4 track recording device) – have to admit, this wasn't planned: It happened by accident.

Also: >50% of the titles played can't be found on #Spotify, hehe.
But we've got LOTS of #fediverseMusicians here like…

You're all making the Fediverse a special and cozy place, u know that? Thank u so much!!
And there is lots of #CreativeCommons content as well. Because Radio Irrtum! will never be friends with the music industry. As there is no "industry" in real music.

I'll post playlist + manuscript later here. And if u have questions? I'll gladly answer. Just ask. CU all on Saturday! :)

This radio show is dedicated to Frau Anna Schmidt. She won't be able to listen anymore; at least not from this planet. R.I.P., Anna.

  6. Today's new old Alpha Alpha song: Finding It Hard. Written by Hans Dekker, recorded in 1996 and remixed using both digitally-separated stems and the original #4track recording in 2024. I remember this being fun to play but can't remember the chords anymore.

  7. Oh yay, Tetrakan has finally done a video on a Fostex #4track #cassette recorder that is similar to the one I have.

  8. Finally, we're getting to rock out again with one of my favorite new old The Hooded Crow tracks of all time, released to the world just today, "Ravine", written by Michel Bouma and initially featured on our second demo in 1994. Sometimes, a guy just wants a big dumb riffy rocker, and "Ravine" delivers that, but it also has enough movement in it to keep things interesting beyond that. And it's a joy to play!

  9. New old The Hooded Crow demo, this time a two-person track from Michel Bouma and Johan Dijkhuis (YouTube, 2m 30s, thumbnails appear to be AI art - presumably Johan heard about me griping about the old art used in the other thumbnails):

  10. I think I know what to do about ‘Sleeping Not Drowning’:
    1. Record a second guitar part on the track reserved for the vocal, then bounce to a stereo track.
    2. Record a guide track for the vocal melody on one mono track using a guitar.
    3. Try the vocals again on one of the remaining tracks using the guide track for support.
    4. Mix.

#4Track recording means you have to strategize and that’s still the case if your 4-track is digital. Just having a stereo track is a luxury.
