@Terencio @CactuarJoe Thanks for the timestamps, I rewatched it. But nothing in that scene implies to me that he killed the kid.
-
@CactuarJoe Was there any reason to think he did?
-
"You're already part of me"?
This movie knows *nothing* about being part of someone

@CactuarJoe Huh, I thought there was one scene near the beginning where somebody mentioned Scott and Linda being a couple (and having been so for a while), in such a way that if either of them thought otherwise it would have been mentioned 🤷
Plus there was that conversation in the middle where Tony and Linda talk about this being the second time he "steals" one of Scott's girlfriends
I thought the reason she was shocked at Scott's proposal was that, at that point, she knew that Scott knew she was going after Tony and she either expected Scott to realize their relationship was over, or had actually broken up with him (offscreen).
But yeah if Scott and Linda were not together in the beginning then that all looks very different
-
also i'm bummed i didn't get to a "I want my father back, you son of a bitch" variant for that speech until WAY too late
-
also doctor concrete or conkite or whatever offering him money sounded like evil captain kirk offering good universe spock money and whatever else he wants to get out of the brig

Too bad that 4D Man wasn’t made by Hammer… there would’ve been a climactic fire
-
Per Wikipedia, 4D Man was re-released as Master of Terror, so it could play as a double feature with Master of Horror.
History doesn't repeat Itself, but It often rhymes.
-
@CactuarJoe Eh I am not supportive of her blatant (near-?)cheating in the first half of the movie but yeah aside from that I like her
-
@Louisa like that kind of makes Tony the real genius in the family (and got doted on or something for it) and Scott's competent and actually does the work but still feels inferior and frustrated and that'd be okay _except_ Dr. Cronkite or whatever keeps taking that away too, right? that makes some of what we see make more emotional sense to me anyway
-
@diazona 4D man could roofie a drink that had a thumb covering the bottle opening! I mean, with all those murders it definitely seems plausible. #Monsterdon #4DMan1959

@YsengrinWolf The posters were my favorite part.
-
@Louisa I think there's hints of an earlier version of the script where Scott was to be implied to be stealing Tony's ideas and/or glory like Dr. Concrete or whatever was stealing Scott's ideas and/or glory setting up some kind of parallel in the story but it didn't make it to screen
-
@moira I thought it was for emergency delta-V on unplanned-untethered spacewalks. As might happen during the zero-G duel between protag and antag. #Monsterdon #4DMan1959

Well, a big thanks to @Taweret for that jazzy 4D film. It certainly captured the essence of 4D.
Smoking, no coffee, many deaths from life suckage, likely including a little girl we were introduced to earlier in the film, most happening offscreen. A narrator that thankfully did not return after opening the film. A mad scientist love triangle. While filmed in color, most of the sets had grey walls. An interesting assortment of late 1950s motivational posters.
And 4D. Did I mention the 4D?

@combatwombat The Poe gender is hot-goth-adjacent. #Monsterdon #4DMan1959

experiences like this are why all those science fiction astronauts carried guns
-
@diazona I love it so much. They don't make 'em like that very often. Apparently I took for granted the way it actually fits with the narrative
-
We have learned that the fourth dimension is jazz and I am here for it
Thanks as always @Taweret for hosting and everybody for posting! See you next week! Unless you're sticking around for the double feature
-
@plaidtron3000 Yes, I wouldn't trust that reactor to behave properly any more with a guy stuck inside it. #Monsterdon #4DMan1959 1959

Honestly though, I think The Incredibles took it up another level. That was a truly spectacular soundtrack.
-
That had actual good parts. And a lot of parts that were in the neighbourhood of good even if not actually there. Plus a lot of bullshit, of course. And a very nice soundtrack from some other movie, which I don't know whether this one deserves credit for, but it was pretty good.
