The SECOND of the two Ween reissue purchases today.
This is NOT cut at #45rpm like Quebec is, but it sounds phenomenal.

I’ve owned a Plain Recordings reissue (yuck!) of this on white vinyl for a long time, and I was always disgusted by how it sounds.

THIS makes up for that time of agony.

Thank you, Rhino for finally delivering a great sounding press of this at a decent price.

“Exactly Where I’m At” has entered the chat about the greatest all-time album openers of all time.

And yes, once again…

Finally!
Picked up BOTH of the new Ween reissues today, but THIS is the one I’m most excited about.

2 LPs cut at 45rpm, and I couldn’t be more pleased with how my SECOND favorite Ween album sounds.

Puzzling that it was hyped as being red and magenta colored, when CLEARLY one of them is a cream/off-white color.
It doesn’t really matter.

I’ve wanted this magnum opus on vinyl for quite some time, and my copy sounds STELLAR on all four sides. I haven’t even sonic cleaned it yet!

Long live Boognish.
For eternity and long after that.

40 years ago today, May 3, 1986, Malchak & Rucker debuted at #82 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart with “Let Me Down Easy”. It went on to peak at #67 and spent a total of 5 weeks on the chart.

It’s been my hobby to collect 45 RPM singles. This is one I rescued from the garbage at 650 AM KYAK in early 1987 when I was an intern there at the station.

38 years ago today, April 23, 1988, Libby Hurley debuted at #86 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart with “Don’t Talk to Me”. It went on to peak at #59 and spent a total of 8 weeks on the chart.

I don't believe we even added this song to our music rotation. I remember that we played her previous single, “You Just Watch Me” quite a bit on AM 650 KYAK even after it peaked at a not very successful #43.

An excellent chapter from the book of Berlin-School electronics.

The third Schroeder album (produced by Klaus Schulze), it utilizes the brand-new-at-the-time PPG WAVE 2, a German built #synthesizer that gained such notoriety, that literally everybody started using them. It is an endless list of who’s who when it comes to early #80s synth music (Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, Tangerine Dream and David Bowie to name just a few).

Here, Schroeder blends the PPG with guitar, bass and drum flawlessly. The album sounds incredible, and creates quite the atmosphere.

I’ve mentioned on here before about my penchant for records that are great for playing whilst pursuing other creative endeavours like drawing, painting, etc, and this one fits that bill perfectly.

Diving into the last few pieces of the #rsd titles, and this was a pleasant surprise.

A wonderful sounding reissue of the ‘94 release.

Albini was a great champion for Slint from the beginning, and when a different band booked recording time with him and DIDNT show up, Steve invited Slint into the studio, and recorded these songs instead.

Touch And Go eventually acquiesced and signed the band, after originally rejecting Tweez, and telling the band AND Albini that they weren’t interested.

What came following was a little album called Spiderland.

It was also very heartwarming to open up the open cardboard and see that picture of Steve.

A lovely tribute, and an incredible sounding pair of songs.

It pays to know people.

Got ALL of my RSD stuff early, with THIS being the crown jewel.

Some of the “brownest” Ween ever, and for ANY disciple of Gene, Dean AND Boognish, this is pure gold.
Pure. BROWN. Gold.

For me, it’s worth having for the long lost studio sessions recorded in Eindhoven, which has an incredible “Albino Sunburn Girl” and a dope version of “Push th’ Little Daisies”.

According to Dean, the “Live in Basel 1990” portion of this is the best Ween show of all time.
They played in front of one person (their manager) for the majority of the gig, and by the end, there were five.

That’s progress, bro.

Bill Evans, At The Montreux Jazz Festival, 1968 on Verve

Second 1968 Bill Evans performance I’ve posted this week, this one has the trio (again with Eddie Gomez and Jack DeJohnette) at Casino de Montreux in Switzerland, and was recorded by the technical department of Radio Suisse Romande.

My copy (via a private sale) is the 2020 Analogue Productions reissue on two 45rpm 200g records, cut by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab. Sounds fantastic, though I can’t say I like having to change the platter twice as often.

Seven classic songs for a Saturday afternoon.

As a kid, this was the #1 “play it again” tape I owned.

As soon as it was over, you just flipped it over and did it again.
Every one of these songs are etched on my 14 year old brain forever.

“Waiting Room” is clearly brilliant, but growing up, it was “Bad Mouth” for me.
THAT song was one of the first handful of songs that my first band and I ever learned.
We’d play it at birthday parties or whatever drunken “my parents are out of town” fiesta, and people thought it was our tune. 😂
Kids are so stupid. 😂

38 years ago today, February 20, 1988, Exile debuted at #67 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart with “Feel Like Foolin’ Around”. It went on to peak at only seven notches higher at #60 and spent a total of 4 weeks on the chart.

If I remember correctly, we played this song for only about a week, then it was dropped from the rotation at KYAK, the station I used to work for.

Top-shelf primo German #synthpop from the #80s for last (and short) spin of the night.

There’s something about the creepy drumbeat and eerie synth on “Birds And Dogs” that gets me. Sounds like something Buffalo Bill would dance around to nude in Silence Of The Lambs. 😂

If you have the chance to listen to the first three Twins records (Modern Lifestyle is my favorite), I highly recommend that you do. ESPECIALLY if you’re a fan of the genre.

Twins had a great run.
SIX albums over twelve years starting in ‘81, and then a SURPRISINGLY good reunion album called Living For The Future after being dormant for 25 years.

Excellent band.

Back in 2017, one of my three favorite bands of the #90s reunited and released this awesome 3-song E.P..

The 20 years off had no effect on their badassery.

These 3 songs nestle in perfectly with their pair of nineties studio albums quite nicely.

The guitars on “Blank In The Blaze” are quintessential Chavez, and the closing track “The Bully Boys” has an almost meaty, ballsy, Middle Eastern feel to it.

A beautiful, shining explosion that’s over and done in less than 10 minutes.

All hail Chavez.

THIS is a hell of a gem 💎.

When I was in my local shop today, and came across this and noticed that all three songs were superhero & comic book themed, my interest was peaked enough to throw it on the shop’s table to sample it.

I got 10 seconds into the first song on side A, and stopped.
I immediately knew it was for me, and was going to take it home regardless.

These three songs are SUPER catchy, super infectious and charming lo-fi #indie rock & pop.

Some harsh & abrasive #experimental music from a man born in Australia, but lives in Iceland.

Ben Frost has made a bunch of albums, but I find this one to be the most effective. Not overly complex, but a very engaging experience in different sounds and production approach.
I particularly love the almost tribal-feeling drums on the 6+ minute long “Venter”.

Slipping back into #christmas with a WONDERFUL find from today!

This 3x7” box of The Nutcracker Suite is AUTO-COUPLED, so sides 1 & 6 are on the same record, so on & so forth.

When I was VERY young, my 3rd grade class went on a field trip to see The Nutcracker performed at the Wang Theatre in #boston , & my tiny adolescent mind was blown away. The music has stuck with me my whole life. When I hear it, I’m instantly transported back into that theatre.
To find such a unique version of it is special for me. Records are in great shape, too!

What looks to be a radio permit/ private receiving station license from Vancouver: dated and signed May 5th, 1949.
Pretty cool, man.

You just never know what you’re gonna find inside a used record.
