  1. Using the #SeeStar S50 to capture interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS right now and I'm definitely capturing it. It's this blurry line right here.

    Multiple minutes of photo data capture have been combined in the image, causing the blurry line to show as the comet moves. The blurry line lines up with the expected position and motion relative to the stars of the interstellar comet 3I/Atlas.

    The brightest star in the image is "HIP 50792 - HD 89848 - SAO 118260" based on the databases I have loaded in Stellarium.

    3. Minimal non-gravitational acceleration (<4.6 m/day despite active outgassing)

    4. 0.005% probability trajectory (close flybys of Venus, Mars, Jupiter)

    5. Anomalous mass (3-5 orders of magnitude too high for typical interstellar objects)

    6. Extreme negative polarization ("unprecedented among asteroids and comets")

    7. Low diatomic carbon despite high CO₂

    8. Ancient age (7-14 billion years old based on kinematics)

    A Harvard/Initiative for Interstellar Studies paper calculated a Bayes factor of ~10²⁸ favoring artificial origin over natural.

  10. @n_dimension @wordmark Which existing satellites orbiting Mars can be repurposed for observing #3i_atlas? Most of the satellites observing #mars are tuned for that purpose. They might not be able to do a full spectrography observation of #comet3i.
    Can the #rovers on the #mars surface have a look at it?

    My primary source of data about 3I/Atlas comes from "The Angry Astronaut" on youbute. Hes been a long time follow of mine and hes pretty solid with his info.

    I undertand there may be a NUMBER of missions observing #3i_atlas as it hides from earth behind the sun.

    So if it kicks in retro thrust, we will see it.

  12. #3i_atlas #comet3i is a 20 km object that's just been discovered entering our solar system a few weeks ago. There are many super curious/suspicious things about it. If it's a normal comet, it's a lottery winner.

    - It's entered our solar system within 5% of the plane of the ecliptic.
    - It's entered from the galactic disk, meaning we didn't see it until the last moment (attacking from the sun)
    - it's moving at 60 km /sec, we are unable to catch up to it with our best rockets
    - it will pass very close to mars, Venus and Jupiter.
    - it will pass fastest, on the other side of the sun, masked from earth, the perfect time to execute a deacceleration burn. Coincidently the best time to deploy vessels.
    - it's not venting gasses as comets usually do, as far as we can tell. So it's very solid.

    Combined those "coincidences" mean it's 0.02% probability it's a natural event.

    It could well be a comet, but if it is, it's behaving exactly like a vehicle entering an occupied system would behave. #jameswebb is going to examine it in August.

    If it does execute brake burn at the sun we will see it in our orbit, November, December this year.
    And with the US smashing things with hammers, humanity will have degraded response options.
