#materials are to #3d like the bass in music i think

they're super important, they tie together models and lighting, but often just aren't seen as that important

while sure, if lighting or models are bad, it'll be weird but it'll look weird as in irl-weird.

if the materials are off, however, it'll look _really_ wacky. for example if roughness is too uniform, it feels far too clean or if colors are perfectly smooth it feels like it all is sort of plastic-ish and and and...

if you do them properly however, they can salvage bad models or even bad lighting, depending on the scene

and why am i making this post in the first place? most #3dArtists neglect materials. they don't really care or just use cheap ones and overcompensate by adding more postprocessing or higher detail models, shooting #render times into ridicolous numbers
