I've always been mildly puzzled and bored by the movie, apart from Audrey of course, but inspired by @CatsOverPeople I now read the novella and it is so much better! Consistent with the expectation you might have of a very special female character: witty, bold, self-confident and not afraid to be vulnerable at the same time. Short novel by #TrumanCapote, a young New Yorker socialite and her love to a man of inappropriate status, posthumously published and you somehow understand why it didn't happen in his lifetime: precise prose, sympathetic with and fair to the characters and their complexity but unconsequential ending, as if he didn't really know what to make of the conflict he created. #bookstodon #2026reads #bücherliebe #books
