Morning Folks. This morning, I dive down a bit of a guilty pleasure rabbit hole as I talk about the YouTube channels that were important to me in 2025. I watch a lot of YouTube, or more specifically, I have videos playing in the background while I do other things. These channels are ones that I rarely miss.
It is finally time for me to talk about the #Games that were important to me as part of my #2025InReview series. I am pretty certain, though, that my list looks nothing like most of the best games lists, but these were games and game events that were important to me personally.

Creative Year In Review Thread
December was inspired by our travels in Japan, but also with a desire to try and recapture my sketching skills
Creative Year In Review Thread
October was inspired by our upcoming trip to Japan and practice with the anamorphic lens
Creative Year In Review Thread
September was inspired by our Toronto trip
I also started on my Inktober images
Creative Year In Review Thread
We stayed a few days more into August in Ontario to see Niagara Falls
There was a wonderful cloud photo from the plane on the way home
My anamorphic obsession begins!
I Ghiblied my Inktober prompt
Creative Year In Review Thread
I made the first pastel image I liked in July, and the first night landscape painting I was proud of
A conference in Toronto gave me subjects to sketch, which is kind of how my art side statted
Normally I’d blog my year in review, but I think I’m going to keep it short and simple and just post it here.
Collectively, we can all agree, 2025 was the worst. The things the regime has done to the country I live in has been appalling. But I’ve been fighting. I’ve been donating to the opposition.
Personally, 2025 was one of my better years. Our family transportation business got up and running, we did our first few trips. NodeSpace had one of its best years ever. I’ve been busier than ever. I’ve grown professionally and personally.
Going into 2026, the year’s theme (or rather motto in this case) is my personal modus operandi: technology is not a panacea. It means that technology is not a cure-all for every problem. This extends to AI. While I don’t hate AI, I do hate that it has made people think that it is a hammer so all they see are nails. I try to use it responsibly, filling in personal knowledge gaps. Like I cannot design websites to save my life but AI is great for that. I can’t tell if these numbers on a P&L are good or not. It’s not a friend. It’s not your friend. I hope that AI companies are forced to put in safeguards to protect kids. I hope parents actually start talking to their kids. I hope it replaces CEOs, not actual employees.
My goals for the next year are to get healthier, which I know everyone says, but I really need to. I’m going to cut back on alcohol (which means my favorite craft beers) because I’m sure most of my weight gain over the last several years has been my love for IPAs. I’m going to try to get back into cycling, which has really sucked because of the extra weight I put on.
I’m also going to start working on leaving tech and putting more focus into the family transportation business. I love tech, but I love driving buses more. It’s weird as an introvert but I strangely do well on the bus. This isn’t going to be a this year thing, but it’s getting started.
I’m also going to be “downsizing” my tech life. I already got started by getting an iPod. Yep, an iPod! I’m going to stop streaming and go back to owning my music.
So while collectively 2025 sucked, I’m hoping 2026 will get better for us all.
Happy New Year, with love, peace, and kindness.

My 2025: reconnecting with my German roots.
Culture Map insights led to digital sovereignty questions:

What shaped your 2025?
Finished 2025!
I finished a lot this year, but if I had to choose one that stands out, it is definitely Expedition 33. It jumped easily in my Top 5 games of all time. What a great experience.
Besides that I liked a lot Horizon, Death Stranding, Control, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Doom Eternal. In that order.
I catched up with some classics, like Lands of Lore 1, Chrono Trigger, Tomb Raider, 2 King's Quest-adventures and Turrican 2.

2025 in review: Got married in May ❤️ Navigated a tough economy & tech layoffs. Dove into AI projects, championed open-source AI, open data & digital sovereignty. Faith anchored me—amazing encounter with Indigitous leaders & continued digital mission service.
Grateful for growth & God’s guidance. Hopeful for 2026—let’s use our gifts to make a difference!
