Another good depth of field shot. Lens close as I could to the glass. #columbuszoo #reptilehouse #snake #2023photochallenge

I enjoy the zoo because it is a challenge working around the animals to get shots. I was surprised to see the lions out this time and was able to get a couple of shots. I placed the lion at an intersection post edit. Moved the sliders to try to warm it up a little bit. Tried to do a sky replacement but the trees made it feel unrealistic. #lion #zoo @columbuszoo #columbus #columbuszoo #2023photochallenge

Last of the sleeping insects from this trip. Was really pleased with the detail I got but probably could have angled it better. As I edited I was thinking how getting a shot of the wings would have been great. The iso was about 200, the aperture was about medium, the speed was a little longer. Using the screen zoom to check the focus. Editing I shared the same the focus with the flower and bee. #bee #flower #macroflower #macrobee #macrophotography #2023photochallenge

I don't normally like black and white shots. They feel pretentious in my mind. Like who am I to be moody. Other's can do it who have more of an artistic eye. Today I was stumped on what to do with this one. I lined the shot up trying to get the center on the ally. I used a regular lens and put the aperture wide as I could get it for that good depth of field blur. #spiderweb #dew #morningvibes #foggy #depthoffield #photoshopedit #2023photochallenge

  5. Photo Challenge 229/365
Found this sleepy girl on my way back from my photo walk early in the morning. Messing with the zoom in the screen viewer to help me focus a little more. I think I got really close but the condensation makes me think it is fuzzy. Since the bee was sleeping long shutter delay, tiny aperture to get max depth of field, and lower ISO since the sun hadn't broken up the fog. #bee #macro #macrophotography #macrobee #2023photochallenge

This is a shot I took last year at the zoo. I thought this was a picture I couldn't bring back due to the light and the dark being too much. I was able to bring something back and may try again to clean this up. I was surprised what I could bring back. #photoshopedit #seal #2023photochallenge

  7. Photo Challenge 219/365
Another macro of a morning glory. I think I went too hard on the slider trying to get the saturation you see with your eye. Tripod, low ISO, small aperture for that good depth of field, shutter speed to compensate for the small aperture. I did do some spot healing to get rid of the pollen on the flower petals. #photoshopedit #macro #macroflower #purpleflower #morningglory #2023photochallenge

On my morning walks I see these vining flowers and love em. Eevee doesn't like that I tried to get a clipping so I must enjoy them from a far instead. Used a tripod, tried to get a large depth of field in a sunny day. Low ISO and medium speed. Slider work done to try to recreate the saturation of the flower. #macro #macrophotography #macroflower #blueflower #photoshopedit #2023photochallenge

Another shot of no real subject having the multiple subjects be the subject. I didn't know flowers were so fuzzy! Low ISO, tiny aperture, and a long shutter speed to compensate. I had to bring the exposure up but then add contrast and other sliders to make it pop a little too. #flowers. #macrophotography #macro #macroflower #photoexperiment #2023photochallenge

  14. Photo Challenge 208/365
This was a tiny flower I was able to get most of it in one shot. Low ISO, tiny aperture, slow shutter speed. Off centered to give it a little something more than just head on flower bud. Slider work to make it a little more vibrant and overcome some underexposure. #orangeflower #orange #flower #macro #macroflower #macrophotogrpahy #2023photochallenge

  15. Photo Challenge 203/365
Tried to provide some contrast in this shot with the blue, purple, green on the right and yellow on the left. Focusing was with the screen and not by eyesight. Still trying to figure that out. I am using a paper to help focus before taking the shot. Higher aperture setting, lower ISO, and longer exposure to compensate for the indoor lighting. Slider work to try to make it more vibrant. #blueflower #yellowflower #macro #macrophotography #macroflower #2023photochallenge

This was another one from last week. There were power lines going between the trees and the sun was right between them. I used the healing tool to take it out while doing some slider work to expose the trees right while letting the sky stay hazy. #photoshopedit #trees #sunrise #hazy #sunrise #2023photochallenge

  18. 2023 Photo Challenge 182/365
Eevee seconds before zoomies. she is growing up so fast. Low depth of field and the focus on her face draw your eyes in. Tiny healing on eye boogers. Slider work to make her pop. She is such a good model! #puppylife #puppy #eeveee #summertime #2023photochallenge

  19. 2023 Photo Challenge 177/365
For better or worse, I got another shot at the sunrise this morning. I blinked and it was there, I took about 50 shots with various exposures. This involved a bunch of slider work. I was told expose for the highlights and develop for the shadows in my night time class and I tried that here. I think this was a good shot and cropped it to get the sun at the top left intersection. #sun #hazy #canadafires #chillicotheohio #sunrise #photoexperiment #2023photochallenge

  20. 2023 Photo Challenge 176/365
One of my attempts this morning to catch the haze of the Canadian wildfires in Ohio. By the time I got home from the dog walk and got back out with my camera I missed my shot. Will try again tomorrow. Heavy slider work to bring the sun into some sort of unblownout circle. #photoexperiment #photoshopedit #sun #hazyday #canadianwildfire #summer #2023photochallenge

Getting some light into my dinging room I found this fly who had passed a while back. Interesting how it looks like it could take off in a minute. I focused to what I thought was the eyes but think I was a little off. Very light slider work and cropped it a little to the side which isn't what macro usually does. #fly #macro #macrobug #2023photochallenge

This little bug has been by my front door for two days so I finally got a shot of it. I was at an off angle so depth of field is not helping and I think at the right angle I could get a clean shot of the whole thing. Little slider work to make it less flat. #macrophotography #macro #macrobug #lightningbug #firefly #summertime #2023photochallenge

This was another where I got the depth of field and rule of thirds practice. I think I am going to try a little more of this over the next week. Slider work was to compensate for the lighting in the room but feel like this one was better exposed or I got luckier with the sliders. #flower #flowers #purpleflower #purpleflowers #macro #macrophotography #flowermacro #depthoffieldphotography #2023photochallenge

Yellow cluster of flowers I could play with depth of field. Did some slider work to overcome the underexposure of room lights. Added a vignette to really drive home the focused area. #yellowflowers #macro #macrophotography #flowermacro #2023photochallenge

  27. 2023 Photo Challenge 170/365

This was another shot of the flowers on the table. I am a fan of this depth of field as everything seems to focus on the flower. The petal in the corner seems to draw my eye a little but it might just be me. Slider work done to try to overcome the room lighting. #purpleflower #macro #macrophotography #flowermacro #2023photochallenge

This is a little plant I wanted to get before the earlier buds wilted. The plant gave me one more chance. I used my body to block the sun instead of getting my diffuser. Used some sliders but think I could have done more on the red petals. #flower #redflower #photoshopedit #2023photochallenge

  29. 2023 Photo Challenge 159/365
Took a little trip a week back and caught a beautiful sunrise going 70 down the highway. Slider work to get the highlights to behave. Did do a spot heal on some glare from the window. #photoshopedit #sunrise #roadtrip #2023photochallenge

  30. 2023 Photo Challenge 149/365
This was me trying to find new and interesting things to photograph. It was in pretty harsh sunlight and with slight tweaks I think I got it where it was noticeable but not overbearing. @big_head_ceramics on instagram made this. #studioceramics #handbuiltceramics #ceramicsculpture #ceramicsofinstagram #ceramicsculptures #ceramiclife #ceramicist #sgraffito #sgraffitopottery #artforfun #ceramics #glassart #snails #skulls #glazing #handmade #art #2023photochallenge

After the last shot Eevee's brother got jealous and wanted to come get some photos. I didn't have to do much to settings bumped up the shutter speed and lowered the aperture to catch the action shots. There was again some spot healing work and slider work to make it pop a little. #puppy #dog #doglife #tugofwar #backyard #2023photochallenge

This was a shot this year after getting stuck in the mud. I always enjoy the splash of mud on the blue Jeep paint. Next time I hope to get stuck on purpose! I did minimal slider work to make it pop a little more. #Jeep #mud #photoshopedit #2023photochallenge

Another orchid from the conservatory display. I think I went a little too hard on the exposure. #photoshopedit #orchid #flower #2023photochallenge

  34. 2023 Photo Challenge 125/365
This was an abstract photo I tried. Think next time I would use a photo stack of macro shots. I saved this cause I liked the way the nonglazed layers looked. The other saving grace was the glaze flow you see in the top right. #photoshopedit #2023photochallenge

  35. 2023 Photo Challenge 123/365
I took this shot trying to find a unique angle instead of just taking a top down photo of the flowers. I think I got too lost in the slider sauce though. The plant feels like I got a flash on. #photoexperiement #photoshopedit #flowers #2023photochallenge

  36. 2023 Photo Challenge 121/365
This was a super underexposed shot I took on a bright summer's day. I was just starting out in manual and forgot to adjust exposure for every different shot. I had been avoiding it almost 11 months now. Using the skills I have been growing was able to bring this back in some form. #photoshopedit #buttons #learningphotography #learningphotoshop #2023photochallenge

This was a shot of my ants, they are Crematogaster if I got my names right. They are thirsty girls and you can see the sizes vary. I didn't have to do much slider work but did to a bunch of clean up as they are a bit messy. Little bits and pieces were everywhere. I also removed the highlights and camera reflection from the drop. #macro #ants #crematogaster #photoshopedit #2023photochallenge

  38. 2023 Photo Challenge 110/365

This was a fun shot but hard to get. I had a set up where the bag was dripping, light was in the back, tupperware everywhere. Water splashing all over. But I would like to try it again with a more stable structure and better water controlling. #water #shutterspeed #macro #macrophotography #shutterspeedphotography #photoexperiement #2023photochallenge

This was a nice little bunch of flowers on a sunny day. As you can see in the top left I didn't get the diffuser completely on the target. It was a windy day and I was doing both jobs. But I see the value in it if there is someone to help you. #flower #diffuser #photoshopedit #photoexperiment #2023photochallenge

This is another from my night lake visit. I don't remember it being that bright but it is amazing how much light can be brought back from a raw photo. #photoshopedit #dusk #nighttimephotography #2023photochallenge

  41. 2023 Photo Challenge 100/365
ONE-DERLAND! This feels like I might make it! This shot is a redo of a previous shot and edit. I used my new skills to try something different. I was able to open it up to catch a blue/purple I didn't see before. Kind of like the previous darker version but this one has merit too. Might try splicing them in another edit after a while. #fakestars #Kodama #princessmononoke #photoexperiment #night #nighttimephotography #photoshopedit #2023photochallenge

This was a shot for my night time when I was still learning night time. I used these little spirits around a tea light to make it look like a campfire. The sliders kind of mangle it no matter what I do but will try again after my move when I can get all the stuff back out. #fakecampfire #Kodama #princessmononoke #photoexperiment #night #nighttimephotography #photoshopedit #2023photochallenge

  43. 2023 Photo Challenge 94/365
This was another challenging shot I stayed away from. With the bright light I had the flower blown out. I think it still could have been taken better but at least I got the shot to something presentable. #flower #photoshopedit #2023photochallenge

  44. 2023 Photo Challenge 88/365
This is a difference a 6.25 months can make. I took the first photo last year and posted it with, what I thought was, good slider edits. This year I revisited it as I am cleaning out my folder I revisited this. Think the comfort with the sliders are being more evident.

This is a before and after. It is amazing what photoshop sliders can do to bring a photo back to life. That being said I can get why some people think photoshop has killed photography. I think it has made it easier for someone like me to learn. #photoshopedit #sunset #photoexperiment #2023photochallenge

  46. 2023 Photo Challenge 86/365
This was a macro shot and my first attempt at using a reflector. I gave the dark side a nice golden glow. It was a windy day with only me so I had to shine in one arm and set/snap in the other. Was a fun time though. #photoexperiment #photoshopedit #pinecone #macro #macrophotography #2023photochallenge

  47. 2023 Photo Challenge 85/365
Lots of slider work here. This was a shot that was underexposed trying to get the moon. In the end I put a different moon in cause the original was fried.

This was another one of my pour paintings. Felt there was enough here that I didn't have to tweak the sliders too much. Just a little exposure bump. There was a clarity/texture bump, as is my tradition.

Never been near a volcano so I have to pretend this pour painting is my lava!

I added to this by shining a light on the back that caused the glow you see in the middle. This was a fun combo of my other creative outlet and this one. Sliders were used to bring a little pop, felt flat in the raw picture. #fakelava #macro #macrophotography #pourpainting #photoexperiment #photoshopedit #2023photochallenge

This was one the first of my macro class shots. It was underexposed but the sliders saved me. Tried to offset the rose middle to provide something more than a flower. Flowers make macro easy cause they are beautiful subjects already. #macro #macrophotography #macrophoto #rose #flower #photoshopedit #2023photochallenge
