The latest addition to my collection of books by people I know:
Patrick Michel, "À la rencontre des astéroïdes".
I had known Patrick was featuring #DARTMission results, but he even managed to add in mention of #2023CX1 before the book went to the printers.
And I am not surprised by the references to American movies and British rock music.

As just reported in https://www.facebook.com/groups/1299728060220815/posts/2161635280696751/ by now 14 (!) #meteorites from exploded asteroid #2023CX1 have been collected in #Normandy - here is the latest strewn field prediction map from https://www.strewnify.com/y20230213_02z_31u (where the biggest piece was found has not been disclosed yet but the information was used for updating the map).

For the record re. the #meteorites from #2023CX1 the independent collectors Steve Arnold and Roberto Vargas had already on February 20th reported finding "the new main mass! A beautiful 178g stone, with a broken face and visible #chondrules" in https://twitter.com/hellospacething/status/1627719795389890560 but Vigie Ciel hadn't included it in their tally published on the 22nd. We'll see how this turns out ...

So far 12 #meteorites from #2023CX1 have been recovered, a big one (90 grams, the first find) and 11 others from 2 to 24 grams: https://www.vigie-ciel.org/2023/02/22/meteorites-normandes-bilan-dune-folle-semaine/ (includes a #strewnfield map).

Yay, according to https://allsky7.groups.io/g/main/message/42 the first #meteorite from the #Texas event has been recovered - and together with another such success in Italy (see http://www.prisma.inaf.it/index.php/2023/02/18/eccola-trovata-la-meteorite-di-san-valentino/ for details) and at least seven meteorites from the French case (with the object #2023CX1 seen before it hit Earth) we have just seen THREE fireballs with collected fresh meteorites in a single week! Each such event is rare but a cluster of three is truly unique in geophysics history, AFAIK.

Hope has increased that the exploded mini-asteroid #2023CX1 could have dropped #meteorites on the French Channel coast: https://www.vigie-ciel.org/2023/02/14/4964/ (the hed "Rain of Stones in #Normandy!" is a bit over the top at this point as nothing has been found yet).

Part of three out of the seven or eight largest recent impactors onto Earth having been discovered in advance is just chance.
Part of it is survey programs being far better at finding small impactors than they used to be.

An interesting thing I've just noticed:
In the past year, atmospheric monitoring has reported 7 or 8 impacts onto Earth with energy ~1 kiloton TNT-equivalent or more - https://cneos.jpl.nasa.gov/fireballs/ .
Three of those have been found in advance: #2022EB5, #2022WJ1, and now #2023CX1.

I read that the current trajectory solution for #2023CX1 is now loaded into the JPL Horizons system, in case it should help anyone who wants to search images from the past few days for precovery detections while the meteorite searchers start on the ground.
