What a year, right? Some months I only did lineart or pencil sketches. Some months I did nothing at all. Of the art I did finish, I haven't been happy enough with some of them to post here.
I'm posting this anyway because some artists need to know they are not the only ones struggling.
I've gone for a whole year without drawing before. I always come back to it.
Let's all keep moving forward as best we can in 2023!

1. My new apartment - it's been my soul sanctuary
2. #Obisidian - helped me build my #PKM & task management system. Before, I was app hopping, searching for THE ONE. #ObsidianMD has been The One for me!
3. #Mastodon - Before, #Twitter was the only #SocialMedia I used regularly but reluctantly. Then I found Mastodon & it actually made me happy to talk to people.

My Steam Replay for 2022... I'm not a gamer, but I enjoy some games now and then. Of course I also played some games on other platforms... Game of the year for me was definitely#Stray I had a lot of fun playing it and will definitely play again to see if I can collect all of the memories.

Did the 2022 Art Summary thing.
There were gaps this year, months where I pretty much only worked on comics, so I stretched it a bit. One illustration I even worked on for months, bits at a time.Wanted to do one for 2021 as well, but I dropped it because it had even worse gaps.

For the first time in a very long time, I am looking at the new year as a continuation of what has been and not the opportunity to start anew or enact any major changes in my life (maybe less cathartic moments 😅 I still have a lot to process 😆 ).

Overall 2022 has been a good year.
One in which I have come back into life. One in which I have consolidated the knowledge of who I am. One in which I have began to learn what self-care means and looks like for me. One in which I have made new friends. One that has transformed me into somebody else (in a good way). One I will not forget.

Other things happened in 2022 that I have missed. One thing I want to highlight is issue 07 of Queer Out Here - an audio zine that explores the outdoors from queer perspectives.
I struggled to work on this issue. It was different from our usual and much more difficult to put together than anticipated. It’s rougher than some other issues, but I am proud of having managed to create it with Jonathan. You can listen here (or wherever you listen to podcast).

Then came December, my birthday, the frenzy of the end of year, and Covid.
In the midst of all this, I treated myself to a digital lens and rather unexpectedly developed a thing for self-portraits. Expect more of that next year.

Being with my family was (you guessed it) another cathartic experience.
For the first time since I can remember I have felt part of my family and extended family friends in a way I never have before.
I have long struggled to be with my family, to get out of the me they once knew but that was never truly me.
Leaving them behind was, for the first time since I left home at 17, a painful experience. I cried again. But these were not happy tears.

In late October and early November, I finally got the changes I wanted at work: a four day working week. I still have not quite adjusted to it but it has been wonderful to be able to truly rest. Something I have been in dire need of.
At that time, I also took a train trip to France to visit my family. My love of trains has been reignited to the full. So much so, my partner and I are already planning our next inter-railing holiday.

In September and October I struggled with tiredness and work.
I realised that I had spent of a lot the year constantly catching up with myself and rarely able to pause to take time to create and rest. This is why I printed so little and why I developed so little.
I had taken steps to make changes at work but they were slow to come and I was mostly disgruntled during that time.

Wheels built, I went cycle touring in Wales. I was scared. It had been a long time since I had faced hills but my body and mind were ready for it.
I thrived in the hills, crying a lot from happiness (a bit of a theme this year).
Once more, it was a transformative experience. One that still vibrates in my soul today. Unlike my time at Easter and in the Lake District, there is something intensely private and intimate to this experience which mean you’ll probably never hear about it.

In August, a friend taught me to build my own bicycle wheels, an immensely satisfying and empowering job.

In summer I lived on my bicycle and took to instant photography.
The latter is not something I have done much since the light began to fade but it is something I very much want to return to at some point. I found a lot of joy in this form of image making.

The year has not been all about going away from the house. It has also been the year of the garden. I watched it bloom into life, I added life to it, and I made some friends along the way.
It has been an endless source of joy to witness insects, birds, and one frog visit on a regular basis knowing it started as a lifeless place when we moved in back in 2019.
