On this day (April 25) in 2006, a random conversation between Elianna and Jess on the campus of Case Western Reserve University founded what would become The Confused Greenies of Players' Patchwork Theatre Company.
Now... 460 performances later of 260 different semi-improvisational scenarios from traditional Italian commedia dell'arte and Japanese kyōgen to parodies of science-fiction, anime, and steampunk, staged in nearly 50 cities across 7 states by 200 Players of the Patchwork... 20 years... and still running!

This Saturday, April 25 we celebrate our troupe's big 20th birthday so we're doing a retrospective countdown!
Year 16 (2021 - 2022) was when we could stage in-person commedia dell'arte again though we now had two different sets of masks such as the premiere of "The Horrible and Terrifying Deeds and Words of Niphleseth, Queen of the Wild Island of Chitterlingonian Sausages" for Ohio State University Center on Medieval & Renaissance Studies inspired by the 16th Century satirical novels by François Rabelais!
Year 17 (2022 - 2023) saw the world fully reopen and when faced what was expected to be the final Marcon (our premiere science-fiction convention) we decided to go out with a bang and stage our second adaptation of a play briefly scene in the pages of the "Girl Genius" gaslamp fantasy graphic novel series, the infamous and incredibly ribald "Heterodyne Boys & the Socket Wench of Prague"!
Year 18 (2023 - 2024) we staged more innuendo jokes in a 60 minute performance block than possibly the prior 18 years combined with "The Beavers of Venice", a last minute "Plan B" commedia dell'arte play for our biggest show at Pennsic!
Year 19 (2024 - 2025) finally completed plans begun in 2019 for our first D20 Project Play in 2019 when we staged "A Mockery of Mimicry" multiple times as a commedia dell'arte parody celebrating the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons where audience rolls of a giant die determined the course of our farce!
Year 20 (2025 - 2026) we continued our look into the more fantasy side of commedia dell'arte with several performances in historical pastorale style on our way to going down, down, down into a goblin town where we'll end on the madness of laughter!
So... where will the next 20 years take us?!

Year 11 (2016 - 2017) was our first time crafting and bringing a full three-act production to the Popular Cultural & the Deep Past historic conference at the Ohio State University Center on Medieval & Renaissance Studies with our thematic commedia dell'arte parody of magic and fantasy!
Year 12 (2017 - 2018) we joined famous commedia dell'arte troupe i Sebastiani to finally stage "The Heterodyne Boys & the Race to the West Pole" to adapt the play briefly seen in the pages of the "Girl Genius" gaslamp fantasy graphic novel series and with the creators themselves in the audience as Comic Guests of Honor at Marcon!
Year 13 (2018 - 2019) we went back to school - specifically to Miskatonic University that was experiencing "Tentacle Difficulties" in our first Lovecraftian Cthulhu Mythos inspired parody farce for Cleveland ConCoction's eldritch horror themed convention!
Year 14 (2019 - 2020) featured a touring run of one of our favorite commedia dell'arte plays, a fairy funny farce called "The Hazards of Hunting Red-Caps" that we performed three times for Ohio State University, three times for Pennsic, once for Midrealm 50 Year, and more!
Year 15 (2020 - 2021) fell entirely into the pandemic social distancing era but that didn't stop us from staging virtual shows over Zoom including the premiere of Mistress Aibhilin inghean Daibhidh's three-act commedia dell'arte "The Calendimaggio Affair"!

Year 6 (2011 - 2012) was when we officially were on the schedule for Pennsic for the first time with an encore of "The Horoscope"!
Year 7 (2012 - 2013) saw some of our biggest performances ever as we celebrated the 50th anniversary of "Doctor Who" with several parodies including our Defenders of Neo-Nippon 3 Team Henshin-H anime crossover "Dottore Who & the Curse of the Fatal Fanservice"!
Year 8 (2013 - 2014) when we played on the Pennsic Amphitheatre stage for the first time with a double feature of commedia dell'arte adaptations of two farces by the Roman poet Plautus: "Miles Gloriosus" and "Aulularia: the Pot of Gold"!
Year 9 (2014 - 2015) when we prepared for trouble and made it double with our Defenders of Neo-Nippon 3 Team Henshin-H anime parody "QB's Used Wish Emporium" at at our alma mater Case Western Reserve University's Anime Marathon!
Year 10 (2015 - 2016) we went to a Patchwork Multiverse that's right over there with a bawdy commedia dell'arte parody of Star Wars and one of our punniest titles in "Looking for Love in Alderaan Places" as our first full length performance at Cleveland ConCoction!

Year 1 (2006 - 2007) saw "The Days After the Days of the Valentine's" as our first performance under the banner of The Confused Greenies, a short modernized commedia dell'arte farce for the combined Carnevale & Mardi Gras celebration at our alma mater of Case Western Reserve University!
Year 2 (2007 - 2008) we adapted "The Horoscope" at CWRU as our first traditional commedia dell'arte full three-act play which we'd later encore several times as one of our faves!
Year 3 (2008 - 2009) we expanded from our traditional commedia dell'arte roots to study a different culture's historic improvised theatre in our first "Mad Words: the Art of Kyōgen" shows at CWRU's Anime Marathon!
Year 4 (2009 - 2010) the troupe got really active including modernized commedia dell'rte of both "Doctor Who" and our first musical parody of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"!
Year 5 (2010 - 2011) we kept the momentum going with an even bigger season, the highlight the premiere of "Dottore Who & the Zealous Ones" where our bumbling parody time traveler meets the most famous commedia dell'arte troupe in history during a foolish alien invasion of the Italian Renaissance! Still one of our finest performances to date that also introduced our signature short play "It All Makes Sense Now!"

20 years ago today I walked into the Loughborough University campus to start a new job (this after being a student there 90-93 and working there 98-00).
I'm still working there. Aside from breathing and being married, there are very few things I've done continuously for 20 years!
As the old marketing slogan used to say - "Loughborough is for life!" 🙂

Před 20 lety jsem si poslal e-mail do budoucnosti přes nějakou časovou kapsuli Forbesu, a ten email mi fakt přišel. Je to zajímavé čtení, osobní, ale tohle můžu sdílet:
👨🎓 Byl jsem před maturitou, chtěl jsem se dostat na VŠ (VUT v Brně). Povedlo se!
🧠 Uspořádával jsem si život a učil se ho žít. Stále v procesu!
👨🎤 Poslouchal jsem house a nosil křiklavé tkaničky. Teď poslouchám leccos, nosím oranžovou mikinu.
🎮 Hrál jsem eldar.cz/zvav, teď hraju 0 A.D. a SuperTuxKart.
🦊 Četl jsem weblogy.cz, používal Firefox. RSS čtu stále (nebo zase?), Firefox používám stále.
💳 Kupoval jsem doménu littlemaple.net, dnes mám honzajavorek.cz
💻 Na DELLu s Celeronem 750MHz a cca 200MB RAM jsem dělal ve Photoshopu weby. Dnes na Applu s M1 a cca 8 GB RAM si v DaVinci stříhám videa a pracuju na vlastním projektu, junior.guru

Today is the 20th anniversary of Kim and I getting civilly uned!
We accidentally did a little couples experiment at Briscoes last weekend. We were looking to get new dinner plates and wanted to get a bunch of different plates that would still work together. A kind of anti-set.
I was wandering around a different part of the shop while Kim had a look and then she summoned me over and said "Here's a test, walk down the aisles and see if you can tell which plates I liked."
"That one. Not that one. These three but you liked that one best. That one but only marginally. That one as a pair with that one. No. Nope. That one but it doesn't fit in with the others. Yes, definitely."
I just want to say: 100% correct in every detail and shading.

As @ubuntu celebrates 20 years, It feels awesome to see new releases each year.
For me the Ubuntu login sound is a core memory. I remember installing 11.04 on a spare laptop in the middle of a night and being greeted by this really refreshing and iconic sound of percussion instruments. The sound was designed by a Ubuntu community member named Peter Savage. Sadly Ubuntu dropped login sounds after 12.04.
Sometimes I just search and listen to it, just to re-live the moment. After all it is where I started my Linux journey. Thanks Peter for creating that sound and thanks Ubuntu for making Linux easier for folks like me.
