This week our home was one of the "10000" affected by two burst water mains that massively disrupted water supplies to 14 postcode areas in East London and Essex, UK.¹

We were fortunate, we only lost our water supply for 18 hours but pressure dropped significantly across the rest of the time and we had no idea whether it was going to go off again or not.

The water company #ThamesWater supplied bottled water at one or two locations which quickly ran out and there were massive queues causing the surrounding areas to become gridlocked.

Local shops quickly ran out of bottled water too. I had to drive about 10 miles to get some. Our water supply did not return to normal for four 4 days. Apart from limiting toilet flushing and not having showers we were decanting drinking water into containers "just in case" ( #1stWorldProblems ).

Some apps have just terrible ui.
Skinny, a phone company, only offers messages via messenger, Whatsapp or Apple. They literally sell you SMS messages and don't let you use them!
BPCharge don't let you add a different credit card to your account while you're currently charging. That's the exact time you're motivated to fix it for next time.

Heute rennt der König mit seinem Volk, der Tag des "Royal Run".
Unser lustiges Problem: Normalerweise ist Einkaufen hier beinahe jederzeit möglich, aber schon gestern waren die lokalen Discounter Mittags zu und nicht nur wir Touristen rannten überrascht gegen verschlossene Türen 😂
Mal sehen, ob wir heute einen finden, um nicht noch ein (teures) Hotel-Frühstück buchen zu müssen.

Yesterday was momentous - we finally got a fully working kitchen: newly installed worktop, hob, kitchen sink, dishwasher and a fancy boiling water tap to replace a kettle. However in true #1stWorldProblems style it’s thrown my morning routine right off kilter. As the kettle boils I usually empty the dishwasher. Now that slot no longer exists I’m going to have to find a new routine. And which cupboard are the mugs in and which cupboard is the tea in again..?

Absolutely chilly for SoCal outside right now... 51.9F. But an incoming heatwave. But, no one else wants the house freezing cold... I'd be up with totally venting the house down to sweater temperatures in preparation for this probably record breaking heatwave for a bit of thermal mass. . #1stworldproblems #CAwx #heatwave

Ich bin kein veganer, aber habe Lebensmittelunverträglichkeiten...darüber denken die Kassenmenschen scheinbar nie nach. Es ist eben "kein ethisches Luxusproblem" (was als Meinung dazu eh schon extrem sonderbar ist) sondern einfach deine verdammte Pflicht genau zu wissen, was du verkaufst!

#1stWorldProblems Finally finished with the DIY stuff for a bit and thought I'd be able to get out on the bike the next few days. It's been about 6 weeks since my last ride due to weather, work and other stuff going on.

But no.... heatwave... and because I live near the sea too... heatwave + high humidity.

It was 26ºC in my bedroom all night, and the new room is typically 2-3ºC cooler than that old one because it's a North facing room.

So today will be spent working, in a South facing room, blinds closed, fan blasting away.

But that does mean I can have Friday off now.
