'Good Christian Sexism': Dale Partridge Seeks To Repeal The 19th Amendment In The Next Decade
-
"The fact that so many men on the right are more determined than ever to silence women’s voices and strip women of their votes is strong proof that the impact of women is, as they feared, existential to their extremist worldview.
Their panic, which has now led them to bizarrely call for a world without empathy, confirms that women are leading us along the correct path and must continue to press ahead, no turning back."

"Increasingly, for many in MAGA, the move to overturn the 19th Amendment poses an existential question. Prominent voices in the white Christian nationalist movement—one now deeply enmeshed with MAGA—view the repeal of women’s right to vote as more than about winning an election. It is a means to return to Biblical principles and a necessary step toward creating a theocracy in the United States."

"According to last week’s exit polls, women—particularly young women—broke strongly for Democrats and were arguably directly responsible for the Republican rout that we saw on November 4."

I'm normally a huge proponent in the right to freedom of speech, but I think anyone who espouses the idea that slavery shouldn't have been abolished or American women should lose the right to vote is a bad person who should be suppressed absolutely! #vote #women #equality #19thAmendment #MAGA

"Not sure which is more disturbing: that so many men want to turn back the clock on women’s suffrage or that they are so willing to post such regressive beliefs proudly and publicly.
Either way, it’s clear that this move to repeal women’s voting rights has taken hold in corners of the conservative movement."

"In the aftermath of last week’s blue wave election rout, the 19th Amendment has been trending on X. Turns out, some MAGA men are sick and tired of women driving Democratic electoral victories. As a remedy, they are openly calling for the repeal of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote upon its ratification in 1920."

Letters from an American – The Nineteenth Amendment – eather Cox Richardson
The Nineteenth Amendment
By Heather Cox Richardson, Aug 26, 2025 Yesterday, I intended to write about the Nineteenth Amendment prohibiting states from denying women the right to vote because today is the anniversary of the amendment’s certification in 1920. But I decided the political news yesterday couldn’t wait, so I dropped the plan and wrote about Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker’s stand against President Donald J. Trump.Still, as right-wing Christian nationalists supported by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth are calling for an end to women’s right to vote, it seems crucial to remember the history of the drive for women’s suffrage in the United States of America. While you won’t get the full letter about it I had intended, my team put together a 3-minute video about the history, linked here.
(This is not tonight’s letter, by the way. I just couldn’t bear to let the anniversary pass without noting it.)

On this day in 1920 the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing women the right to vote, officially became part of the U.S. Constitution: “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”
This day has been known since 1971 as
Women’s Equality Day. -
Lies. Money. Racism. Distorted religion. All of the worst that we see in today’s Trump regime was present in spades in Nashville in 1920. But the suffragists didn’t give up.
God bless you, Rev. Barber!

August 18, 1920 - Women throughout the U.S. won the right to vote when the Tennessee legislature approved the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution (the last of 36 states then required to approve it). An amendment for universal suffrage was first introduced in Congress in 1878, and Wyoming had granted suffrage in state law by 1890.
This amendment to enfranchise all American women had been introduced annually for 41 years without passage; it had gotten two-thirds of both houses of Congress to approve it just the year before.
“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”
In the Tennessee House, 24-year-old Representative Harry Burn surprised observers by casting the deciding vote for ratification. At the time of his vote, Burns had in his pocket a letter he had received from his mother urging him, "Don't forget to be a good boy" and "vote for suffrage."

The US #DefenseSecretary, #PickledPete Hegseth, does not support WOMEN'S RIGHT TO VOTE. #AmericanMen -- is this how you feel as well? Is this why you voted for #Trump? To take away women's suffrage? Does your wife know? Your sister? Your daughter? What will you tell them?
Will they still love you, afterward?

Secretary of Defense #PeteHegseth promotes repealing #WomensRightToVote
by Judd Legum
Aug 11, 2025"Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who oversees about 3 million military service members and civilian employees, reposted a video last week advocating repealing the #19thAmendment, which guarantees women the right to vote. The video is an excerpt from CNN anchor Pamela Brown's interview with #ChristianNationalist pastor #DougWilson, who Brown reports believes 'women shouldn't be able to vote.'
"Brown speaks to two pastors in Wilson's Idaho church who agree with Wilson. 'In my ideal society, we would vote as households,' pastor Toby Sumpter says. 'And I would ordinarily be the one to cast the vote.' (This is the model also advocated by Wilson.) Pastor Jared Longshore says he supports the repeal of the 19th Amendment because 'the current system is not good for humans.'
"Hegseth is a member of a church that is part of Wilson's network, the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (#CREC), in Tennessee. When a CREC branch recently opened in Washington, DC, Hegseth attended. Longshore delivered the sermon.
"Hegseth's response to the video — 'All of Christ for All of Life' — is a Christian nationalist slogan used frequently by Wilson. It stands for the idea that Christianity should dominate all aspects of life, including government.
In response to media inquiries, the Pentagon reiterated Hegseth's admiration for Wilson and his ideology. 'The Secretary very much appreciates many of Mr. Wilson's writings and teachings,' Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said.Beyond repealing women's #VotingRights, what are Wilson's 'writing and teachings'? Let's review.
"Wilson argues that slavery benefited blacks and whites and was 'based on mutual affection'
"Wilson has sought to recast slavery in the pre-Civil War South as a mutually beneficial relationship in many cases. In a 1996 pamphlet co-written by Wilson, Southern Slavery as It Was, he argued that '[s]lavery as it existed in the South was not an adversarial relationship with pervasive racial animosity.' According to Wilson, '[b]ecause of its predominantly #patriarchal character, it was a relationship based upon mutual affection and confidence.' He asserts that "[t]here has never been a multi-racial society which has existed with such mutual intimacy and harmony in the history of the world,' which he attributes to 'the predominance of Christianity.'
Wilson claims that '[s]lave life was to [the slaves] a life of plenty, of simple pleasures, of food, clothes and good medical care.' He urges people not to 'overlook the benefits of slavery for both blacks and whites.'
"In Wilson's 2005 book, Black and Tan, he defends #SouthernSlavery as It Was, and writes 'that slavery was far more benign in practice than it was made to appear in the literature of the #abolitionists.'' He also claims that slavery was biblically justified, claiming that 'the Christians who owned slaves in the South were on firm scriptural ground.' "

Oy Vey! I’m an example of the difficulties with this.
I was married a couple times & resumed my “maiden” name in the divorces, then married again. It’s not unusual.I may be okay cuz I hold a “RealID” license (yellow star) & recently got a passport, both of which required extensive documentation on my part.
Getting these documents will swamp the states, unless a long lead time is allowed. 😱Gonna cost $$—poll tax on women?

Well y’all, I told you they hated women. The House GOP voted last night to take away the vote from married women. 69 million women will be disenfranchised from the vote if this passes the Senate.
I tell you what ladies, it is time to prepare for a Lysistrata type strike. And not a refusal to make the beast with two backs, I mean a total and complete work stoppage of all invisible labor.
The entire world runs on the unpaid, and underpaid work of women. We must prepare to withdraw that labor. Fuck all of this.

Mom’s birthday is in a couple of days. Had she lived she’d be ninety-eight this year. Mom was born at Misericordia Hospital in Manhattan on November 6, 1926. She was born a mere six year after a woman’s right to vote was ratified in August of 1920. Mom’s father died on her fourth birthday and her family was taken in by a kindly aunt and uncle who gave my grandmother, Mom and her two year old brother a place to live. That was in the days before there were Social Security survivor benefits and if it hadn’t been for Uncle Bill and Aunt Mae I don’t know how Mom’s family would have survived.
They did survive however and Grandma, Mom, her brother, Uncle Bill, Aunt Mae and their two children who were born eventually lived in a walk up on 90th Street in Jackson Heights. Uncle Bill and Aunt Mae also took in a couple of cousins who’s father had a serious drinking problem and couldn’t or wouldn’t care for his two sons. Ten people in one apartment in Jackson Heights. The children all went to Catholic schools in the Queens and Manhattan. As Mom was nearing high school graduation Grandma told her the only way she could go to college was to earn a scholarship. My grandmother was a stenographer in the New York City court system.
Mom came home to Jackson Heights and applied for a teaching job but was turned down because she wasn’t a coach. Nowadays’s Mom would be able to sue for discrimination but in 1947 women had few rights. A Jesuit seminarian who lived upstairs in their apartment building encouraged Mom to apply for a Masters program in mathematics at Fordham University. She was accepted and worked her way through Fordham in one year enroute to a Masters degree in Mathematics. Surely she was employable now. Alas, she was no coach and she was once again denied employment on the basis of her sex. D’Youville College offered her a position as an instructor and Mom returned to Buffalo to teach for the Grey Nuns who were the folks who ran the college back then. Mom taught college mathematics for four years. During that time she met my Dad. They got married in 1951 and I was born the following year.
They had relocated for my father to complete an internship. When they returned to Western New York for my father to setup a dental practice Mom elected to work as his dental assistant and forego a teaching career. It’s doubtful that a married woman with an infant son and another on the way would have been hired to teach anywhere in the early 1950’s. Those rights were denied women into the early 1970’s. My father’s health declined in the early 1970’s and he eventually died. Even though Mom had been a cosigner on a home mortgage with my father she was denied credit in 1973 following his death to obtain housing for our family. Women couldn’t seek credit on their own until the following year in 1974.
Mom voted for Hillary Clinton eight years ago and I’m sure she would have cast a vote for Kamala Harris this time too. Mom knew well the trials and tribulations of women who were long treated as second class citizens in a country where all citizens are guaranteed life liberty and property by the fourteenth amendment to the Constitution. Women got the right to vote eighty-four years ago with the nineteenth amendment to the Constitution but we’ve never elected one president of the United States. Let’s hope that changes this year.

"Woven into these attacks on "single issue" female voters is an unsubtle loathing of women's suffrage... if #women use our enfranchisement to #vote for our #rights, then we're somehow "abusing" our right to vote.
...Since they also believe women should always be under the control of a father or husband, this is their method to advocate for the repeal the #19thAmendment while not coming right out & saying it."
