This evening's viewing: total schlock Ozploitation from the early 90s, Aussie vamp flick, Bloodlust. Cheap, nasty, terrible acting, cheaply shot in Melbourne. The sort of trashily bad film that's kind of fun when you're in the right mood for it.

"Not the Carpenters!"
This evening's viewing: the late, great Sam Neill, with John Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness.

This evening's viewing: Queen Tilda Swinton in Orlando, adapted from the Virginia Woolf novel.
I think this was my introduction to Sally Potter's work, coming out when I was a student & the Filmhouse was broadening my #film lore (it still is).

Michael Mann on his masterpiece, Heat, as it turns 30 (really?? Gods, I'm old ...) https://www.theguardian.com/film/2025/dec/25/michael-mann-heat-al-pacino-robert-de-niro
Still one of my all-time top-ten movies. That cast, that cinematography, that soundtrack...

This evening's viewing, a blast from the past, early Bruce Willis comedy-crime caper Hudson Hawk. It has a "troubled" history, lots of problems, but also some daft fun moments, Danny Aiello, a bonkers Hugh Grant, & Andie McDowell as a spy-nun. Haven't seen this in decades...

After considering today's Blu-ray haul from Fopp, I decided this evening's viewing would be old-school, 90s, French style over substance with early Luc Besson flick, Nikita, with Anne Parillaud in her Little Black Dress (& enormous gun).
Years since I last saw this. The uber-cool Jean Reno also makes an appearance, as does Betty Blue star, Jean-Hugues Anglade.

This evening's viewing, a total change of pace from this afternoon's outing to see Ran at the Filmhouse, instead some cult 90s vibes with Empire Records, and very young Rene Zellwegger and Liv Tyler, and a chilled Anthony La Paglia.

Great weekend with chums at the festival, but now time for feet up, pizza ordered and tonight's viewing: 1998's Sam Raimi flick A Simple Plan, with Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton and Bridget Fonda.
This evening's viewing distraction: in the mood for something silly but fun (and with visual flair), so a revisit to Luc Besson's The Fifth Element.
"Multipass!"

This evening's viewing distraction: another present to myself, the Curzon 4k director's cut of Until the End of the World by the brilliant Wim Wenders.
The original (which I saw in the Edinburgh Filmhouse) back in the early 90s was long, this version is *staggeringly* long!
Tonight's viewing distraction: very silly but huge fun, 1990s John Woo action with Slater & Travolta in Broken Arrow(plus an early Hans Zimmer soundtrack)
Part of a Secret Santa gift from thoughtful chum who picked out several DVDs for me from a charity shop haul (amazingly, despite me having some 300 DVDs and Blu-Rays, she didn't pick anything I already had!)
Unplug brain, enjoy dumb but stylish action.

This evening's viewing distraction: some classic 1990s Most Triumphant fun with Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

Continuing my mini-season of more unusual #vampire films from my movie collection.
Following Nadja, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, the Addiction, & Byzantium, tonight's viewing is an overdue revisit to early Del Toro, with 1993's Cronos (was it really that long ago? My first Del Toro movie back then!).

Continuing my mini-season of more unusual #vampire flicks from my collection. Following viewing Nadja, & A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night now with Ferrara's The Addiction, boasting a short but memorable scene from Chris Walken.

"Nights. Nights without sleep. Long nights in which the brain lights up like a big city..."
This evening's viewing distraction, unusual "arthouse horror" vamp flick, Michael Almereyda's Najda (financed by David Lynch, who cameos), with Elina Löwensohn, Galaxy Craze, Peter Fonda (as a deranged Van Helsing) & Hal Hartley regular, Martin Donovan.

This evening's viewing distraction: some 1990s silly but damned good fun nonsense with Demolition Man. Stallone & Snipes both living up to the OTT action movie type but also making fun of it as the same time. And Sandra Bullock, who looks like she's having fun with it all.

And a bonus to revisiting Point Break, in addition to a young Keanu ("caught my first tube, sir"), Tank Girl herself, Lori Petty, also stars. In a film packed with mostly male lead characters & a ton of testosterone, she more than holds her own.
"You want to be a big hero and catch the bank robbers? ... The ex-presidents are surfers"
This evening's viewing: a revisit to Kathryn Bigelow's iconic action flick, Point Break.

Plan was for this evening's viewing distraction to be another from my DVD library, another early Christian Slater, Pump Up The Volume, to follow last night's screening of Heathers.
For some reason the player has decided the disc is "wrong region" (it isn't). Bah.

This evening's viewing distraction: the intriguing Perfect Blue, an early entry by the (sadly now late) Satoshi Kon, and reputedly an influence on Aronofsky.

This evening's viewing: some classic Jim Jarmusch with the portmanteau flick Night on Earth.
Smoking in the taxi, only the rich businesswoman has a mobile (everyone else uses payphones) & the turning globe at the start flies over "Yugoslavia". Yes, this was a while ago!

This evening's post long-walk viewing: more Jean-Pierre Jeunet with La Cite Des Enfants Perdus (City of Lost Children).
Not quite as good as his debut, Delicatessen, but still a visual feast (plus Ron Perlman & Dominique Pinon)

This evening's viewing distraction, a return visit to a cult classic, 1990's Darkman. Liam Neeson & Frances McDormand, with those very stylish Sam Raimi signature visuals (and, of course, cameos from Raimi regulars, Bruce Campbell & wee bro Ted Raimi)
