I’ve had lots of friends appear on #15SecondsOfFame - but perhaps none as pumped for their star making turn as this Wood Thrush.

This is the 3rd of the “Porcupine vs Small Tree” videos. And as someone suggested before (If it was you, please take credit!) the porcupine DOES appear to be using the tree to rub its belly! 🤭
I went back to look at other videos and noticed she goes out of her way to trample ferns as well. But they don’t bounce back as well. What I originally thought (hoped?) was simply porcupine violence appears to be vegetation tummy scritches.
I love porcupines.

Round 2 of “Porcupine vs Small Tree” seems to have ended in a draw.

If you follow along with #PorcupineBridge then you’ve seen ambling friends rumbling, stumbling, and bumbling down the trail.
Well this might be the fastest I’ve seen one move. It’s a porcupine zoomie. 🤭 Until it gets to the bridge of course, then it’s all business.

I don’t get many recordings of bobcats during daylight. This looks like a younger one headed in the direction of my house.

I’ve watched this footage far too many times, slowed it down, paused, enlarged, and shown it to several people.
Best guess is a long-tailed weasel.
Next best guess is a caffeine-fueled ferret trapped in a bouncy castle.

My Wife: I’ve seen reports that bears are up and about. Time to bring in the feeder.
Me: Seems awfully early.
My Wife: You said that last year.
Me: I did? Ok, after the weekend.
My Wife: That’s EXACTLY what you said last year. And then when did the bear eat our feeder?
Me: Errr… like Monday night I think.
My Wife: No, it was Sunday morning.
Me: We’ll compromise. How about Saturday night?
SATURDAY, 6:30pm
Me: I took the feeder in. See, no bears.10 minutes later…

If you’ve followed along this winter, you know the adventures of Fort Squirrel, the industrious Red Squirrel who built her home directly under the bird feeder.
Well, we’ve had warm temps the last 3 days and sadly, Fort Squirrel’s tunnel system and fort have melted.
But fear not! Our ingenious little friend is working on her NEW fort! Behold!

Scene 3 (last)
45 minutes prior, a bobcat wandered through the deep snow. Then a raccoon entered the scene seemingly aware that the bobcat was around.
Then, a third visitor - a coyote sniffing the ground at the recent passings. Its coordination in the snow is a bit awkward. But no one was looking, right? 🤭

Scene 2 (of 3)
In yesterday’s #15SecondsOfFame footage, a bobcat was seen forging a new path through deep snow.
Just 13 minutes later, this raccoon cautiously passes through the same area, crossing over the bobcat tracks. It looks around cautiously before continuing straight away from the path the bobcat took. Outta here. 🦝 🧳

Scene 1 (of 3)
Over the next few days I’m going to post trailcam videos that took place within 25 minutes of each other to show how perilous some “close encounters” can be.
Up first - a big ol’ swaying bobcat butt working its way through deep snow. Unlike my last video, there were no prior tracks to step in.

Caught a bobcat on the trailcam carefully placing its paws in the footprints I had made a couple days before in the deep snow. When it gets to where I turned around, it looks around and decides - nope, not going out there, and turns to go down to the brook.

Nothing like having a happy puppy, err… happy donkey, err… happy deer (?!) running through knee-deep snow to greet you!

When I rewatch my trailcam videos I occasionally spot something I missed the first time.
Watch our little porcupine. After being startled by something toward the bottom right…

And then she crosses the bridge still powered up. 🤗

Mother Porcupine has grown quite large so my wife is planning on widening #PorcupineBridge to accommodate Mom’s… ampleness. 😊 In the meantime, enjoy a large porcupine carefully going across a bridge so she doesn’t get her paws wet. 🥹

The two young ones were certainly taking their time catching up to Mom and ended up creating 3 videos which I stitched together.

Seems we had a family “tiff” at #PorcupineBridge. Having watched it a few times it seems youngster wanted to nurse and Mom wasn’t much into that? 😂

Not to be outdone by a juvenile Eastern Gray Fox, looked who showed up in the same exact spot! A juvenile Red Fox. Look at those black booties. 🤗
And what does it treat its viewing audience to? By getting ready to… well, uh, christen the trail. Yeah.

In addition to the porcupine preschool and the snake nursery, it seems I’m also taking enrollments for Eastern Gray Fox kits!
The trailcam recorded a pair earlier this year but I wasn’t sure whether they were just passing through or if they were planning to stick around awhile.
Seems it was the latter. 🤗

Bear friend might need to put on a few pounds before winter. Looks like a gorilla in a bear costume. 🤭
