RIP Dave Kendall, former host of MTV’s 120 minutes. For those of us who grew up before we could pick up our phone, listen to a song, and have an algorithm recommend 10 songs that kinda sound like it, he was our algorithm- our taste maker. He was a champion for alternative music, and on Sunday nights, MTV belonged to the weirdos and the cool kids for a couple hours. Thank you for sharing the music with us. #music #120minutes

I first heard this song in 1991 after I bought Never Mind the Mainstream...120 Minutes Volume 2. I believe it was the only song not from the mid to late 80s, and I initially found it off putting, but now it's one of my all time favorites.

I watch a lot of old #MTV / #120Minutes videos on YT & most videos I’ve seen plenty but this Cher collab w Beavis & Butthead came out of left field and is exactly why I keep watching random videos (bonus points for them wearing a VR headset) There was so much weird stuff in the 80s and 90s and I miss a lot of it #IWantMyMTV

First exposed to him via #MTV's #120Minutes. THIS might be my favorite cover, which totally reimagines a Beach Boy's B-side into something very 90s and very heavy on the fuzzy guitars and Black Francis-ness.
