  1. Many #Canadians I know have long considered certain #USAnians - such as those in #Minnesota, #Michigan Upper Peninsula, maybe #Wisconsin - to be unofficial "honorary Canadians". They share many things with Canada, from climate and geography to some aspects of culture, making them more like us than many other parts of the #USA.

There are some who are interested in making this arrangement official, with these parts of the USA becoming Canada's 11th province. I'm not sold on the idea at this point, but it's worth talking about.

I mention this because I would just like to let these potential future Canadians know that should this come to pass, their province will be named South Manitoba. Sorry, I don't make the rules.

  2. Nah, #California, I'll wait till you #fixyourPresident before returning, but you're welcome in the meantime to initiate talks to become our #11thProvince.

This is like the cartel boss' wife asking us to come over to the compound for cookies, and to just ignore the bodies and bombs piled up around the place and the hit order placed on our heads.

Here is the full letter as printed :

I was mildly dumbfounded when I stumbled upon Mr. Crawford’s recent letter (”Alaska joining Canada is a brilliant idea”) extolling the virtues of Alaska joining Canada … and double-double-dumbfounded when I realized it was in response to Mr. Jones (”Alaska, let’s make the first move”). Is this a movement?

I may be just a “southerner” down here on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia, Canada, but I have had the privilege of entering Alaska waters on my family salmon troller in the 1990s. It was a rather fraught time back then with the “Salmon Wars”, but today is an entirely different boatload of fish.

Alaska becoming Canada’s 11th province would be exciting for us, to be sure, and I can see myriad wonderful benefits for both parties, particularly when it comes to the reconnections between Indigenous nations. But there is one thing I would want to make clear and I think I can speak for the vast majority in my country.

I would want the decision to be by and of Alaskans first and foremost, and followed by a decision of Canada’s people to welcome you in.
As likely as it may be that we would both say “Heck Ya, eh,” respect for each other’s sovereignty to make that decision legally and peacefully, must always be of the greatest importance.

  5. Our response to America, in equal seriousness to Trump’s proposal, should be that Canada offers provincial status to any state in America that wishes to join us. #Cdnpoli #51stState #11thProvince United States North? Surely, you’re joking www.gzeromedia.com/gzero-north/...
