  1. If you're into electronics and home recording, recording in general, or making, I've got a ton of projects I've built over the last 3 or 4 years all documented to varying degrees up here with hashtags.

    Here they are. Good luck.

  2. Got these two beasts fully calibrated, I think, I hope. I've noticed this with some of the calibrations. When you get it zeroed and you think you got it nailed you turn it off, you go home and you come in the next morning and turn it on and it's not zeroed anymore. I'm going to talk about that with the kit designer. But anyway here they are, ready for battle. Two Hairball Audio Rev D 1176s.

  3. 1176 #2 calibrated. This went so well I think I'm going to recalibrate number ones since that one didn't go well. But now that I have two we can do stereo linking and all sorts of cool stuff with them.

  4. Had a great day tracking overdubs at the studio today. We did lots of lead vocals, some acoustic guitar tracks which I didn't get pictures of, and some keyboard overdubs as well (also no pics). The Millet tube preamp made it out for the overdubs as well as one of the 1176s.

  5. This thing is starting to look like an 1176.

  6. Main board and all 4 daughter boards done on both units. Final assembly can commence tomorrow. We'll see if any magic smoke comes out.

    #1176Build

  7. Finished up both active link boards. You'll see them in the next pic.

    #1176Build

  8. 1176 #2 main board is finished like #1, and most of the daughter boards are done as well. Just have to assemble the Active Link boards, which are optional and not required for normal operations.

  9. 1176 number 1 main board complete. The big transformer was a small pain but the 2nd one will be easier.

    #1176Build

  10. 1176 number 2 is exactly where number 1 is. All decapitators are in and most of the semis. Just have to match some transistors.

    #1176Build

  11. 1176 number 2 is coming along. Power supply is done and all resisticators are in. Even the twisty kind.

  12. For those following along at home, some might remember I ended up getting a bad transformer in one of my 1176 clones. The vendor is sending me a new transformer and should have it next week. Which is fine. I won't be building the 2nd one for a few weeks anyway.

  13. 1176 build #1 chugging along. Most transistors are in, all capacitators, all resisticators, and all trim pits. Gotta match some transistors before I finish putting them in.

    #1176Build

  14. 1176 build continues. Resisticators going in.

    #1176Build

  15. I need to do a better job taking more pics, and I keep saying I will try, and I keep forgetting, but I will try.

  16. The directions want you to build up the power supply section of the main boards, along with two supporting boards for the IEC inlet and mains voltage switch, to make sure that's working 100% before you finish populating the PCB.

Turns out my voltages weren't what they were supposed to be. Then I noticed the power transformer getting really hot. Swapped it out with the one from the other kit and voltages were fine. Bad transformer.

Here it is mocked up for the PSU test.

  17. So I started my 1176 build as promised. This is what she looks like when I open the box.

  18. Next week I start one of the Hairball 1176's. I promise.

  19. Organizing the parts for my 1176 builds.

  20. Waiting for my fancy schmancy solder to come in before I begin the 1176 project.

    #1176Build

  21. OK. I think I'm psychologically ready to tackle these beasts.

  22. It took me an hour to go through that order and compare the items received to the packing slip. #1176Build
