    tech bro = Nazi

Hacker News commenters want to keep those who would protest their oppression busy with forced labor, "re-educate" them, exterminate those who refuse or who you consider worthless.

Justify it with "rationalism", only ever considering the economic aspect, never other aspects … like ethics or "doing things for fun".

If you wonder why I black hole the entire site….

  3. Now, this calculator uses general-purpose chips (shift registers, etc), but the architecture is still pretty bespoke and everything is done in hardware, including some diode logic, etc. So, it has a number of idiosyncrasies:

    1) No leading- or trailing-zero suppression, as you can see.

    2) No negative numbers. 0 - 1 = 999999999999. You can, however, flip sign by pressing =- and get the positive equivalent of the displayed negative result.

    3) No floating-point input. It has floating point output, but displays floats < 1.0 incorrectly because there's no circuitry to detect the need for a leading zero. 1 / 3 = 333333333333 instead of 0.33333333333.

    4) Absolutely no error-checking. It enters unpredictable states on division by zero, multiplication overflow, etc.

On the upside, it has reset-on-power-on circuitry, which wasn't standard on many calculators of the era.

Computing used to be pretty hard!

  4. Latest acquisition. Arrived dead and sat in the workshop for a couple of weeks, but it's back in business now. It's an exceptionally well-preserved one, and yes, it's wood.

  5. Let me tell you a cautionary tale about a man who neglected to post hot takes about AI on social media for a single day. They got to him. He died. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU

  6. Some of you really need grown-up hobbies, like depression or alcoholism

  7. My cat caught a wild fish from a creek, I'm kinda impressed
