#Polymaths... slowly turning into a cult since 2022.

A weekend project of mine that actually turned out really useful for me. I have a network player hooked up to my amplifier that streams music over #DLNA, and I've been using #minidlna to great effect for a long time, but one thing was missing. A way to scrobble my listens to #last.fm.
I made a quick #Go program to watch the minidlna log for streaming requests and send that to last.fm.
It was very fun to write. Maybe it'll be useful to someone else as well?

¿Porque no los dos? There is nothing inherent to #CloudService that precludes it be owned by all its users.
These technologies are proven to be powerful and convenient. We can retain that *and* democratise ownership.
We need to dismantle the #ExtractionEconomy business models and make illegal their exploitative selling of our attention and data. Then empower providers to compete on real service to those who should own the system: The people whose lives it affects.

(I mean, some people consider some LaserDisc releases better than Bluray just because mastering was often better)
Yeah, but aren't those that say that vinyl sounds better than even 24-bit FLAC? XD

I miss the physical keyboard on my #crackberry. I could type accurately on it with my eyes closed / looking the other direction just by tactile field. It was fantastic. I don’t mind autocorrect because it doesn’t tend to get in my way, but with the real keyboard I didn’t need it.
I always type with “proper” English grammar - at least sentences and capitals. Code switching is a thing of course, but I generally consider being able to type a sentence table stakes for respect for the other party in communication. I’ve always typed fast enough that it actually takes me longer to type “shortcuts” than just using real words.

YES, YES, and YES. AND abortion and contraception and interracial marriages, and #DeathWithDignity, etc.
Those are the reasons I decided to openly label myself #Atheist!

Anything being #advertised on #YouTube would well be avoided.

I really love webrings. The latest one I discovered and applied to is by Dusan (@dusnm) called https://polyring.club/.
Happy to know I just got accepted! 🥰 Really love the people in this webring, their sites & posts are great. I bookmarked a lot of them for future reading (my RSS reader is kinda overflowing at this point).
Scroll to the bottom of personal sites and you might find folks with a navigation bar—I love clicking thru exploring rings. :)

@selea No, #xkcd927 is the "let's create a new standard to replace all these standards" one. =)

A dream. But mostly just vaporware. 😄
P.S. It's an idea that some of us #polymaths had to create a new fediverse client (particularly for #GtS) for the terminal, likely in Go/#Issue9.
@dusnm gave us the inspiration to write it in Go, then quietly left before anyone assigned him any real work. >:)
(Just kidding, we all sat around, threw around some cool ideas, and then promptly did next to nothing. I think @sunarch did all the real organizational work; good on him)

Swaying like the children
Singled out for praise
The inside out on the open
With the straightest faceAs the sad-eyed woman spoke we missed our chance
The final dying joke caught in our hands
And the rugged wheel is turning another round -
No time to waste, only time to treasure
Creating the memories that will last forever
The sounds and the pictures that echo through time
My love, my life
My legacy in a rhymehttps://music.youtube.com/watch?v=CCTU-jaqsJg&si=IDAtA8SrkES1iRrQ

You vanish over the skies
(Survival, it was destined for your name)
I am forsaken
Beneath the ground I lie
(Compassion, brings you here when the rain falls on mine)
Was banished from this hurtful life
I am forlorn
All dreams have turned to strife -
I'm so glad that dedicated music shops are still a thing. Just yesterday, I went in totally blind and bought Opeth's The Last Will and Testament on CD, ripped it to my network and I can't get enough of listening to it.
This is what the streaming age took from you, organic discovery and actual connection to music.
