  1. Are there hand-drawn programming languages?
Without OCR or any kind of shape or symbol recognition.
Where lines somehow actually describe processing.
    Like water in a channel.

No-ops may be optimized at runtime.
IO and math and memory allocation and binary encodings may possibly be difficult to express.
But UI and graphic processing and input events should be first class.

  2. I want to be part of building or participating in a platform. Like books or wikipedia but more of a conversation that could actually be compelling for authors and journalists and scientists to spend a lot of time working on as part of their profession.

  3. We need more games for adults.
I don't mean "adult games". I mean games that demonstrate knowledge of the nature of our lives. Like how the protagonist in a novel is relatable. And sure, interactive fiction is great, but I think all kinds of genres can have better writing, or incorporate insights from developers.
I think gaming could see a golden age dawning in the next decade as TV rides over the hill and some talent moves over to interactive entertainment.

  4. Do a thing.
    Rest.
    Do a thing.
    Rest.
    That's productivity.
Does anyone normal actually just work 8 hours straight on a normal day?
Sure breaks, lunch, yes, sure, sure…
But still isn't it a myth?
And who's perpetuating it, genuinely believing it? Expecting it? That last one is the big one I think.

Even when we totally understand and acknowledge a productivity myth as it applies to ourselves, we expect responsiveness of the world.

    Extrapolation is hard.

  5. When he says he does not endorse any of the models or give any definite answers, per se, I started taking Michael Pollan seriously with this last work on .

But it's like fingernails on chalkboard how he uses "consciousness" to mean fucking everything from attention to emotion to arousal. *sigh*

  10. I might actually be flipping my superficial opinion on consciousness here.
I used to just say, "no," where the real answer if you want to talk is, "maybe, but it doesn't matter."
Now I think it's, "yes, but it doesn't matter because its consciousness is yours/ours and if you think this specific fact makes a difference, you probably need to spend a lot of time meditating."
…On third thought I should definitely continue to say, "no."

  11. Gotta say, Pollan makes me want to write a book. Or a 2030-appropriate thing that the act of writing a book would produce.

  16. I want a #polycentric type system in my #programming language.

That is, I want the data structures to project back and forth between multiple type hierarchies.

    As a result,
    • One type system won't have to serve all purposes.
    • Smaller, specific models can reuse terminology (not by include nor dependency).
    • DSLs would be easier to write.
    • Some services won't have to be broken out into separate code bases.
    • All hope for perfection may finally be abandoned.

  21. My fantasy is to have enough money I could launch a quit capitalism collective. We'd just work on dogfooding alternative systems full-time. Launch non-quantified value currency and business models, transparent and regenerative supply chain systems, community reinvestment and antifragile feedback loops…

  25. Thinking again about #SemanticCurrency, my qualitative complement to quantitative scarcity-based measures of wealth.

The value of semantic currency emerges from the *meaning* of a service rendered, an alternative abstraction to a *number* of a scarce token like bitcoin, dollarbucks, or gold.

Dollarbucks enable economics to scale up so that we don't each have to track a billion relationships, but rather can track a number: our account balance.

Semantic currency would, too, but differently.

  29. these four fields are ALL THAT IS NECESSARY to kick capitalism.

capitalism is scarcity mediated by currency. That's it.

#semanticCurrency is not scarce. it is "minted" (though no "mint" is involved) by writing a record of the event.

SC value is established by _semantics_. The _meaning_ of who, why, and how. the story is relatable. people understand. it is recorded so the value flow may be tracked. it is kept so debt may be *not repayed* but, yes, reciprocated.
