It’s wild to me - as a complete outsider, of course - that the prospects for fusion reactors and synthetic photosynthesis are about the same.
Photosynthesis works at room temperature using catalysts we understand well. How is it so hard to industrialize this?

I wouldn't believe this was necessary, except I've experienced it myself. Swank hotel in Vienna with a glass-walled bathroom. Terrible.
