Among other design and structural updates in the 7th edition, captions and figures are now presented differently. With over 1,000 figures, images are essential to enriching the text. To connect and for better reference, a small version of each image is shown on the same spread as it is mentioned in the text. For better clarity, new 'gallery' pages feature larger images that combine figures of note. Gallery pages are moments to pause, look closely, and make comparisons. #mhogd7ed #designhistory

A new chapter we are excited about is a timeline documenting important graphic design and cultural events from pre-history to present. The Timeline takes a unique form that we hope is understandable. Traditionally timelines chart time linearly from top-to-bottom or from left-to-right. To simplify and condense our timeline, move through time from top-to-bottom, but over 2-column per page.
