  1. @kbradnam That’s pretty cool. The old gas storage on the edge of Dundee will be transformed into an #EdenProject garden - looking forward to that.

  2. @kbradnam full disclosure a) was completely fault of useless booking agency #Opodo b) was entirely our fault!

  3. @kbradnam Oh my, Keith... I might just have to get this one...! Obvs, the Millennium Falcon is a big draw, but #Blueprints! #DoubleSided! #TakeMyMoney

  4. These new #Twitter rules banning cross-promotion of post & profile links to (some) other social media platforms is shameful.

It will lead to the #BarbaraStreisandEffect with more people curious about #Mastodon as a platform.

Was announcing this rule change just as the #WorldCup final was finishing a deliberate attempt to announce it when a lot of media focus was elsewhere?

The #BirdSite…where #FreeSpeech goes to die.

  5. This might seem weird but I keep a daily log of how many emails are in my inbox and how many items are in my ToDo app. Collectively they form my 'Barometer of stress'.

This doesn't help me directly reduce the number of emails or ToDo items, but it gives me a chance to step back and realise 'yep this is an abnormally busy time' and that helps me.

The big email spike in 2022 was from taking a two-week holiday.

    + Colgate Max White Ultra
    + Lycamobile Mega Plus plan

When did we as a society accept so many #superlatives in product names?

  7. My 9-year old son is doing some homework about #HenryVIII. I pointed out to him that my home town in Suffolk (#Haverhill) is home to ‘Anne of Cleaves’ house.

All my life I believed that she lived there but I just read this on the Suffolk heritage website:

“Its connection with Anne of Cleves, the fourth wife of Henry VIII, is a recent fiction, believed to have been the marketing ploy of a local estate agent in 1967.

  8. Was making chicken #Katsu curry for dinner and had some leftover batter mix and panko breadcrumbs…

…and so may I present to you a possible world-first of ‘katsu mini-sausage roll’!!!

  9. Although I almost never post to my acgt.me #genomics blog anymore, there are some historical posts there that continue to get a lot of traffic.

I published almost 400 posts over the last 10 years (the vast majority of them them between 2013-2016).

Here are the #TopFive posts (as judged by total traffic):

  10. Many presentations are already painful because of #DeathByPowerpoint (with over-reliance on slides with only bullet points).

But I find it equally painful by how many meetings/presentations become tedious because of AV issues which are often because it’s the first time someone is using that particular setup.

  11. #Introduction (part 1)

Hi! I’m a former #genomics researcher. My PhD (that I started in 1996) was spent looking at the very first sequenced eukaryotic genomes (yeast and worm).

I spent about 20 years of working on various research and infrastructure projects (big love for #WormBase) as well as teaching bio students to #code.

  12. Decided to re-blog an old post I wrote (from 2011 while living in Davis, California) about the death of my grandad.

It's still on the Davis Enterprise website I think (I wrote some blog posts for the local newspaper at the time) but is paywalled.

So here it is in full:

  13. I think that’s my most satisfying #CouchTo5K run yet. I had to wake up at 6am to get out at 6:30 in order to avoid the heat.

I’ve started running in my local woods because they are notably cooler so I also got a nice burst of nature to refill my mental space as well.

    One week to go! 🏃‍♂️

  18. That was a very tough week 8 run of my #CouchTo5K program.

Knew it would be hot today. I thought I’d try to go for a run before 8 am but it’s still 20°! I managed it but I think next run will have to be at 6 am.
