  1. My 9-year old son is doing some homework about #HenryVIII. I pointed out to him that my home town in Suffolk (#Haverhill) is home to ‘Anne of Cleaves’ house.

All my life I believed that she lived there but I just read this on the Suffolk heritage website:

“Its connection with Anne of Cleves, the fourth wife of Henry VIII, is a recent fiction, believed to have been the marketing ploy of a local estate agent in 1967.

  2. So another quiet day in UK then.

If Keir fights for his position — as he has indicated — I wonder if others will want to join a leadership contest beyond the obvious candidates of Streeting, Burnham, and Rayner.

Milliband? Cooper? Are there other credible candidates?

Technically I think there could only be four candidates standing against Keir (you need nominations from 20% of the Parliamentary Labour Party). So 81 MPs needed meaning there could be a maximum of four challengers.

  4. For the first time ever in my life, I’ve just voted at a UK polling station on a Saturday!

This is part of a trial in some areas to see what happens if you allow voting on the weekend before an election.

In my particular case, this is a local election for a Borough Council, which is going to be abolished and replaced with a unitary authority next year.

In any case, I hope the trial is successful and allows for more innovations to make it easier for people to vote.

  10. Spent almost five hours at #BletchleyPark yesterday. So many amazing things to see and learn about regarding World War II, the role of codebreaking, and the development of early computers.

Would have stayed for longer but our kids were getting a bit overwhelmed by that point.

    Highly recommended.

  15. It’s 2025 and it still feels that setting up even the most basic of smart home accessories can be needlessly complicated.

Having to disable your 5Ghz Wifi network before you can pair an accessory can make the very first step challenging.

I’ve just bought some Meross, matter compatible, smart plugs. After making sure I was only running a 2.4Ghz network, I was able to get two of the plugs to pair (to Apple HomeKit) but the third just refused.
