Quick question for analogue and manual focus fans out there...
What do you think AF schmuckos like me fail to understand when it comes to the joy of shooting manual? I'm road testing a little 50mm lens this week, and observing in real-time how AF vs MF changes the way my brain thinks about photography.
I bet there's a few folks around here who have been shooting MF for a long time and are wondering why I have been soooo slow to figure this out :)

A quick thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts on the challenges facing people when they first start out on a path to learn about photography. I hope this video will touch on a good number of the ideas you folks shared.
And here's a blog post as my bookmark for the video :) https://ewenbell.com/blog/Photography_Is_Not_About_Cameras

"A Long Chat About Learning The Art of Photography" https://youtu.be/x480fxJoFlw
Several weeks back I asked for thoughts on what people wished they understood a little earlier in their photography journey. Some of that proved very useful. Some of it was in a different direction to my brain at the time.
Here's the final outcome of that! I was working on a video idea, and now that video exists. It's a long chat, so maybe better to watch on the weekend with a cup of tea. It's not my usual short+sharp stuff. Hopefully not tooooooo boring for some folks to enjoy!
The Peertube link will be up soon too.

There are a lot of great lenses for L-mount cameras, but not every manufacturer is supplying for this mount. Tamron in particular have some great lenses that I really wish I could be shooting with on the L-mount bodies. Having just reviewed their new 12-20mm F2.8 lens, I have some thoughts on what is good and not so good about being an L-mount owner.

No.117 Monochrome in Melbourne
A few thoughts on what's been happening behind the zine this month.
In this podcast I'm talking about some of the forces behind the scenes that are encouraging me to get out onto the streets of Melbourne, and how a new ultra-wide lens is changing my perspective on the city.
And where ever you enjoy your podcasts. Search for "ReImagine Photography".

Should come as no surprise that the July photo zine is a monochrome affair. It's just my mood this winter. Most cities look better in B+W, and Melbourne comes up a treat. All that winter light making long shadows.
New edition of the zine is on the website now, ready to download. No trackers or signup etc. If you like it, share it :)
Have a great weekend everyone.

I had to be super secret with this lens on the streets of Melbourne these past few weeks. Finally can share the video, and a bunch of photos :)

Field Review of the Tamron 12-20mm F2.8 for full frame Sony and Nikon, on the streets of Melbourne. An ultra-wide zoom lens like this is usually intended for astro photography and big bold landscapes, but I'm taking that ultra-wide 12mm perspective into the urban jungle instead.
How hard is it to tame an ultra-wide zoom in a city of 5 million people?
