I am happy to report that the "you've been sitting for more than an hour"-timer is the thing that has so far worked best to try to solve that specific problem. Not perfect, but actually Doing Something while staying out of my "I need to throw that thing through the window" brain box. Success for now.

This evening I started a repeat of the pottery class I had followed six months ago - same studio, same instructor, different group.

I had talked to one of the studio people last week about the fact that I felt like I didn't know how to progress anymore by myself, and she suggested that I could, in fact, repeat the beginner class, and it made instant sense to me - the beginner class DOES have the info/practice I need, but it's quite possible that I missed it the first time around because... that's a lot! and that one does not catch the same nuance as "complete beginner" and as "I've worked some time at the wheel and I have some idea of what I'm consistently fucking up"

and indeed the class this evening was *very* interesting, I did manage to get my best three pieces ever (... out of four lumps of clay and three that ended up being a piece and not back to the recycling bucket), I have unlocked more centering skill ("ooooh, I *can* actually do this without making things worse! I hadn't managed that yet!), and I've re-tried techniques that I did not remember because I had latched on other ways to do things and not tried anything more.

a *very* interesting experience! looking forward to the next three weeks :D
