erk, i messed up the args to openssl, so rather than encrypting something with a password from a file called .pass, it used the literal string ".pass".
It only took ~6 months to spot.

So it's phone migration day (pixel 6a -> 8a)
And once again I experience how bad the android phone migration process is.
Why can't it just copy everything over ? I really shouldn't have to reconfigure my various email accounts / banking / social media apps etc etc.
