  1. @Martindotnet Trying to wrap my head around the concept of "audit logging" aka "audit trail" and how it relates to (open) tracing. Would I use open tracing for audit logging? Any thoughts on this?

There is even a big GitHub project dedicated to audit logging for #dotnet: github.com/thepirat000/Audit.N

  2. Listening to Steve Gordon & @Martindotnet on #DotNetRocks talking about observability.

The idea of tracing being a richer source of app introspection than logs is an interesting one.

  3. If you find yourself using a source generator in your own solution, so that you can add an attribute to a class with a tonne of parameters and have it generate the source, consider whether there is a better way.

Generics, inheritance, or just... WRITE THE DAMN CODE.

Generator code is hard to read in raw form, hard to debug, etc.

Source Generators are useful, especially for shit posting (martinjt.me/2022/05/03/evil-mo) but there are better ways to do most of what they do.

  9. I struggle to not respond when I see someone post publicly about a solution to a problem that isn't a steppingstone to the right solution, or the right solution.

Part of me wants to correct them, another part of me doesn't want to get drawn in, and then another part of me feels like people will read their article, see it as the right solution and perpetuate the wrong solutions. The latter makes me believe I am the one to fix things, when I'm really not.
