  1. The Barefoot Volcanologist

On the ash plains of Mount Yasur, on the island of Tanna, Vanuatu, Phillip, an internationally recognised, self-taught volcanologist, stands barefoot atop a volcanic rock bomb. Wearing a lava-protection suit gifted to him by some visiting researchers, the volcano smoulders behind him, sending a plume of gas and sulphur into the sky.

  3. #Volcanologists have been using #drones to probe #volcanoes, and the #war in #Ukraine has also seen heavy use of drones and #coordination between drones and other drones and other assets.
I wonder how the #lessons learned will affect how #scientists use drones to #survey inhospitable areas like volcanoes or #Mars or #wildfires or even deep #ocean #exploration.

  4. Closely monitoring the rapidly evolving events unfolding in #Iceland, as I suspect are many #Geology and #PhysicalGeography types (along with #Volcanologists of course) around the world.
And hoping the good people of #Grindavik emerge without too much damage to their town and lives. #Volcano #VolcanicEruption #Earthquake
