Career and financial success is just dumb fucking luck isn't it? It's nothing to do with skills, intelligence, ability or "hard work". I wish I had figured this out 20 years ago. I'd have just become an accountant. It's all just fucking chaos really.

I have been a coder/software engineer for over 20 years, I have never had a job that paid more than the equivalent of €70k before taxes a year. That one job was only for 6 months. I have had two jobs that paid over €45k. Listening to friends on €100k+ a year who do exactly the same job complain they "don't have any money" is really fucking draining. I'll be lucky to earn €7-€8k from work this year.

Sorry for asking for help again keeping my head above water financially. I'm still struggling to find solid work and I am having difficulty paying essential bills, especially health insurance and electricity bills and keepung my car running. Any help appreciated. Any leads on work also appreciated.

I'm getting very sick of seeing friends with far less experience walking into jobs paying €100k+ while I'm maybe taking home €320 a week, half of that the dole, half from 30 hours a month of contract work. I'm getting increasingly angry at the world, because I cannot understand what I am doing wrong in life. It makes no sense. 😞

#FollowTheMoney 90/n 🧵 UK unemployment rate hits five-year high of 5.2%
In a way i am glad that at least rising #unemployment is slowly recognised and talked about in MSM - those of us who have lost jobs know anecdotally just how widespread #Redundancy now is.
worrying nonetheless. Not least because #underemployment- many working in PT low grade jobs to make ends meet - is not picked up at all statistically.

"The NHS #WaitingList was three to four years".
#Autistic people experience higher levels of #Depression and other #MentalHealth conditions, higher levels of #Unemployment and #Underemployment, higher levels of #Homelessnes, and higher levels of #illness
Fully funding adult assessment, diagnostic and support services would save money and improve lives.

If those with ongoing work, who've had ongoing work for a while, could gain some persepctive on employment uncertainty, that would be great. This week, a colleague suggested that rolling contracts don't necessarily hold people back, as you can still get (e.g.) a houseloan. I just. Where to begin?

CW: Re: US pol, US economy
It's also worth noting that how the US officially measures #underemployment is very different from how people think about it. Most assume that if you're #underemployed, you're working in a job that doesn't fully use your skill sets, education, or expertise. But "underemployment" in US economic reports only means people working part time when they want full time work.
US economic reports also only consider people actively looking for work. They don't consider people who are #unemployed but have given up looking for work. Nor do they consider factors like #JobSatisfaction.
There's a lot more going on in the US #economy than just whether there are a lot of open positions or not. Even if there are jobs available, if those jobs don't pay well, aren't engaging people's skills, and aren't treating their employees well, then they're not telling the full story.
