  5. A quick summary of how Turkish economy is going since the #TurkeyElection.

    * New finance minister Şimşek is liked by the global folks and shows potential to Turkey leaving Erdoganomics but no one is 100% sure because he's Erdoğan.
    * Exchange rates are going wild as expected. USD-TRY went from 19.99 to 22.70 in 10 days. EUR-TRY similarly went from 21.55 to 24.38. Don’t even ask about GBP.
    * Markets are on the rise as well. But in a cautious way.

  10. I first visited #Turkey & #Thailand on the same trip, back in '06/'07 - for 🇹🇭, it was a few months after a #Coup.

And at that time, I would never have imagined that it would be Thailand, not Turkey, that would, 15+ years later, be on a path towards becoming more democratic and progressive.

Very (cautiously) hopeful for 🇹🇭, but unbelievably disappointed and worried for 🇹🇷

  15. @[email protected]:
Ruim 70% Turken in NL stemden op #Erdogan. We moeten iets hiermee. Het betekent immers dat de integratie in termen van (waardenbewustzijn) geheel mislukt is. Jaren in het vrije liberale Westen leven, dan stemmen op een autoritaire alleenheerser. Wat gaat hier mis? #turkeyelection
  16. It's day two after #TurkeyElection and Turkish Lira loses its value like crazy. Same goes for other important currencies like Euro and GBP as well. And I don't think there's nothing that can stop this fall, at least not in the short or mid-term.

  21. A newly elected politician who takes times in his acceptance speech (which are normally very broad and general as a genre) to have a pop at LGBT+ people is clearly desperate, but more importantly dangerous

  24. It’s been three hours and the “celebrations” are only getting louder. This is not your usual election victory celebration but they act like they won the war against an enemy. This is the mentality they’ve created in Turkey and I don’t know how this country will move forward with this psychology. #TurkeyElection

  29. Erdogan also declared victory, opposition leaders will talk later in the evening. Right now it’s fireworks, car horns and what not in my neighborhood.

Walking into the depths of the hell while half of the country mindlessly celebrating it. #TurkeyElection

  34. Current results are 52% Erdogan and 48% Kılıçdaroğlu. I don’t think it’s going to change from here. We’re going deep into economic crisis, even more oppression and fascist tendencies powered by Islamists in Erdogan’s coalition, and a generally messed up years. And right now there’s a convoy of cars celebrating it right outside my apartment. #TurkeyElection

  39. Voting has ended about 20 mins ago. It was not so unusual, classic rigging attempts in places where it was expected. But it seems like AKP was more nervous and aggressive than before. Now we’re going to wait until the broadcasting ban is lifted. #TurkeyElection
