Well. Getting Tomcat 9 running on an ultra-cheap Amazon EC2 instance (with Amazon's very own ARM chip) running Ubutuntu 24 and accessible from my home PC when you barely know wtf you're doing might not sound like much of an achievement, but it is for me, and here I am, patting myself on the back.

Now this is a puzzle, and all I need do is tell you it is #Tomcat9 on #Java8 running #Ubuntu 18.04 to set most of you running, but here's the thing: starting around midnight on the 18th, tomcat will no longer run. There's been no changes other than automated software updates.

catalina.sh start shows the webapps loading, no worries, no alarms, gets to the last one and reports "Killed." and sure enough, it is. Not a shred of log evidence, no kernel messages (ie OOM), nothing that I can detect.

I am seeing #ERR_HTTP2_PROTOCOL_ERROR on my browsers connected to my #Tomcat9 server.
Tomcat just got bumped by #debian unnattended-upgrade to version 9.0.43-2~deb11u7.

I have reflexively disabled HTTP/2. The error has gone away. But now I don't get the lovely snappiness of HTTP2 anymore, and I like (the idea of) HTTP2 for #Apache #guacamole #Tomcat

Anyone else woken up to the same thing?
